Masonic gravestone visited despite loads of poison ivy and nettles. There was a giant obelisk next to it which served as a grave marker for a very high-up member of the Masons, but I didn't get any pictures because some band was sprawled all over it (presumably for an album photo).

I love to see grave sites in good shape with the headstones intact. It's a terrible shame to see grave vandalism, and if I ever find a location like these i'd keep it very, very secret.

On careful re-reading, maybe John's not missed that much after all.

A few from Abney Park Cemetery in London, one of the Victorian 'Magnificent Seven' dotted around the city. It has largely been left in a state of managed decay, as a wildlife haven and habitat.

Also the 'Cemetery of the Insane' in Belgium, an abandoned graveyard which once belonged to a nearby psychiatric hospital.

I perceive no ill will.
Perhaps John was a bastard that might not be happy in heaven.

It's in Cote-des-Neiges cemetery on beautiful Mount Royal here in Montreal. According to internet lore this stone was a collaborative effort by John's ex and his mistress. Tee-fucking-hee!

What year is the stone?

1995. Here's the front side:

Apparently it was an in-joke between the three of them and this was the way they chose to sneak it into perpetuity. It's a very beautiful cemetery, even nicer than Mount Royal Park. Wikipedia says 1.5 million souls have been buried up on the mountain since the 1850s (between the 2 main cemeteries).

-Anything- meant to be in the grave is fair game in this thread.
Grab your shovels kiddies*...

*standard blackhawk disclaimer: grave robbing is fun and profitable, however
I do not condone or recommend doing it.
May be extremely hazardous to your health and well being.
It will prolly get you so PBed too.

Bonus:
In West Texas road side memorials are very common.
Some even build little houses or sheltered memorials for their dead loved ones.

Oh boy, this is sort of my thing. Here's a few:

1. My blurriest ever photo. Before I realized focusing wasn't a mental exercise only. This man "James Merry" was gored to death by a bull in 1892 while pretending to be a matador (full story here http://gloucester-...index.aspx?NID=717)

2. Local witch legend Mary Nasson's stone.

3. Local witch legend Mary Nasson's top slab.

4. Grave of the unknown Confederate soldier in Gray, ME. More here (http://www.presshe...ave-mystery-grows/). The body was supposed ot be a Union solider but was mixed up with a mystery Confederate,

5. Strange grave in Portland Maine. "The witch grave." Many inscriptions in Latin and other languages. Celtic art, a now smashed cross. References to demons in the inscriptions. Often had offerings of jewelry or burned out candles on it.

6. Grave at Ricker Basin, VT ghost town. A widowed lady buried her husband in the back yard under a tree and some quartz stones.

7. Strangely deeply depressed grave at Rutland Prison Camp. All prisoner graves around it are slightly indented, while this one must be by 3 feet. Suggestive of grave robbery which perhaps accompanied the removal of the markers.

This looks like kind of a DIY job, but there's no getting around the fact that this is meant to be a coffin...
