It's been said a million times but it really does come down to trusting your instincts. Rarely will I give up on a location permanently, but I've had plenty of instances where something felt wrong and I just decided to book it and try again another day. If something feels wrong, it probably is, and it's better not to risk it.
"That sounds like a horrible idea! Let's do it!" |

Posted by NickNick28 I'm curious to see when both beginning and expert urban-explorers decide when it is time to say 'no' to a potentially decent location. This is mostly just out of curiosity, but I may want to know for future reference what I might want to look out for. Personally, I usually will skip a location if it's popular among homeless or drug abusers, since they can be unpredictable, and occasionally if the area is too well guarded.

I agree with a number of the other members answers here. I'd like to add; a place that has a ton of graffiti because it usually means that spot has been scrapped to hell and everyone knows about it.

Posted by Aran ... Is there any chance of getting permission to explore the property again, or is it off limits for good? ...

I'd say it's definitely not going to end well if one decided to attempt this one in the near future. Too bad. It was possibly the best place I've ever explored.

When there's a sign that says "No Trespassing". That means they don't want you to go in.

Things that cause me to hesitate:
- Mowed lawn - No broken windows - No graffiti - Fresh bear shit Things that cause me to return another day:
- Modern/clean vehicle parked outside - Any exterior or interior lights on - High chance of detection by neighbors - No POE without use of force Things that cause me to pass on a location:
- Security cameras - Security guards - Bears - Squatters - Razor wire fences and high barbed wire fences w/ no other POE - Evidence of a previous collapse in a mine shaft Things that don't stop me:
- No Trespassing signs - Boarded doors/windows (there's usually another way in or one has been pried open) - Locations in view of highways or rush hour traffic - Risk of black mold/asbestos - Soft flooring (there's usually a safe way around)
