This is my first post on here, got to say, I'm super excited I found this site. Over the weekend I went to Gary Indiana to go explore a few of the many abandoned buildings. I'm originally from Maryland, but I go to school in Indiana. Needless to say, I was a bit worried after seeing the many postings online about how bad of a place Gary is, but when I got there I had no trouble at all. I actually ran into a bunch of really nice people, mostly other explorer types, even a couple families. After wandering into the Palace theatre through the worst possible entrance (pitch black, and I was alone), I shed all my fears of getting stabbed or whatever, and the rest of the day was super fun. I'll post some of my photos below. Feel free to, and please do, critique my pictures as thats something I really enjoy getting feedback on. And for anyone in the Indianapolis area, or within a few hours either direction, send me a message or something if you would maybe want to link up to go on some adventures. Going alone is fun and all, but I could really use the help of an experienced midwest explorer. Being from the east coast and all, I dont know too many good spots. 1.

That school, and pretty much all of the popular spots from years ago, are all bombed out and trashed, now. The schools and Methodist, especially. Also: yay, you can get into the Post Office, again. They've been boarding it up as of late.

Great pics! Welcome to the forum. I've never been to Gary, but hope to visit in the near future, so thank you for taking some of the "fear" out of visiting.

Cool shots and thanks for this post! I've been flirting with a solo trip to Gary and Detroit but have some reservations on going alone. This post helps with that!

I have enjoyed many solo explores and have had the same feelings of anxiety and enjoyed meeting other people. Good job on the pics, you got some skills with the camera.

You didn't go to the Post Office? That place is cool with the with tunnels that the Postal Inspectors spy on the employees from.
In order to use your head, you have to go out of your mind. |

^Pretty sure #8 is from the Post Office.

Auditorium in 1/2 is a burned out shell as of yesterday morning

^ Expected arson, but the burned auditorium sans all the shitty tags looks surprisingly cool. It's like a fresh new spot.
