We didn’t expect that: When we entered this place we were surprised how much stuff was still there. Tons of boxes were filled with personal items. A lot of the time when places like this are found it is due to the last resident becoming a hoarder and either the property ending up in a prolonged legal battle over the will, or no will at all and no beneficiaries being found which can leave places like this abandoned for a long time.
In my neighborhood there was a house that stood empty and full of stuff for a year, because there was a divorce and it was disputed who would get the house. Maybe it's something like that, or a will, like Mookster said.
