So last weekend i visited one of the mines up in the Pontiack . It was freezing cold and the snow was up to my knees but i was definitely worth the trip I only visited about half the buildings on the site.Without snowshoes or skis getting around is very tiring.

There is a still active gravel quarry at the other end of the open pit and some kind of lumber operation just down the road.

Just when I thought I was out... they pulled me back in.

I believe that it was one of the larger iron mines in Canada.

You couldn't access it?
Most times they have straight vertical shafts and can be deep; need the right gear and the training.
Not to give you wicked ideas...

There were three things that looked like shafts on the property. One was full of ice:
1.

And i was not keen on climbing down a icy slope in the other two shafts on my own. This is a place that I definitely need to revisit when its not cold and shit outside.

The super happy fun slide... explores go down but they don't come back out.
Prolly lots of water down there too.
You need at least 3 good flashlights+extra batteries before you even think of going down there.

Be cool if doable in the summer... best to know when to stop.

Not a chance freezing cold water full of unknown toxins and very little clearance.
