An interesting article / photo-essay on Ontario's nuclear "leftovers", courtesy of the Canadian Center for Architecture.

Hex? Oh hell...

Even more fun when heated with steam...

Not to mention large quantities of fluorine is just plain silly scary. Fluorine makes Charles Mason seem stable but comparison.

I read about the Eldorado plant several years ago. Decided at that point Port Hope would never be a good place to live. Think this might be the article.

Chalk river stuff heads off to hospitals mostly they made sources for medical imaging. However i did read somewhere that the entire plant could theoretical be converted to make weapons grade fuel in a few weeks.

I used to live in Pembroke when I went to college and drove by Chalk a fair bit, always wanted to check it out but never did. Also been to Mississagi Provincial Park which is north of Elliot Lake and you can still wander the mine properties up there, though nothing is left really.

The reactor will be shutter by 2019. It's being retired; it has reached its useful lifespan.

Really cool article, thanks for sharing. My grandfather who was a principal scientist at Chalk River and president of the Canadian Nuclear Associations took me to visit the plant a few times....such a cool place, I wish I still had an "in"!
