Looks like you're hitting a bunch of the things MSP is good for! A word of caution - if you don't know already we're actually pretty warm and cuddly in person, just please show discretion in what and how you post online. The underground, especially, is the kind of thing that The City can take away without a great amount of money or time, on their part, so please be careful not to post entrance DETAILS or particularly site-identifying information online (here and elsewhere). We've got tons of people into all kinds of weird shit and despite what you may have heard we ARE lovable (WE ARE, GODDAMMIT!) but we turn into slobbering trolls when someone gets careless with location details. It's not pretty. So welcome! Keep doin' what you're doin'! Underground People are Good People.
I'm a "Leave only footprints, take only pornography" kind of guy, myself. |

Nothing new to explore in MSP since the days of Maxxx Axtion. We all moved to Nebraska.
I want to be different. But I want to be different just like everybody else, because if I really were different, everybody would think I was crazy and weird. Iowa is Minnesota's bitch. There's an art to pooping. |

Not that I feel dramatically compelled to justify the actions of a fellow moderator, but if you're asking, I would say that Gunner was guilty of breaking rules 2, 3 and 12. 2. Asking someone to take down a post that you don't like is NOT ALLOWED, and is considered harassment. 3. Respect all members of this forum. 12. Use common sense. If you think it's not a good idea, it's probably not. We reserve the right to warn, tempban, or permban you if you violate the rules.
He's in no position to tell a new member not to post up any photos, or to discourage him from naming the site, or its geographic location. Those might be the rules you prefer within your own community, but they are not the rules of this site. This is a community resource which relies on the sharing of a certain amount of information. We were all new once, and we all got started somewhere. Quite frankly I don't know what you guys are doing so differently in MSP that requires such theatrical levels of secrecy, but it's not the norm, and it does not extend to all members of this site. Be as secret as you like amongst yourselves, but please don't go bullying new members into conformance with your views.

Rule 2: Does not apply. He never asked anyone to take any posts down. Rule 3: He was respectful about it. He said "Welcome" and "Thanks". Rule 12: Not wanting all our locations all over UER + the Internet is common sense.

1) I'm perfectly willing to lump asking someone to never contribute any more photos into the same category as asking them to take down a post. The end result is them imposing their will on another member. Gunner has no right to ask that of anyone here. 2) Saying please and thank you does not preclude one from being confrontational. It's called being passive-aggressive, and it's not respectful. Gunner is in no position to make that request of another member, no matter how many faux pleasantries he sprinkles into the comment. This is a community forum which exists solely for the conveyance of information amongst like minded individuals. 3) They're not "your" locations unless you're the property owner. MSP is not unique or special - the ongoing battle between explorers and owners exists worldwide, and yet somehow we all persevere. Sometimes locations are wide open. Sometimes they're locked down. Sometimes they're pristine. Sometimes they're trashed or covered in graffiti. Sometimes they stand for 30 years, sometimes they're demolished in weeks. That's life. That's our hobby. Don't like it? Pick up crocheting.
As far as I'm concerned this matter is now resolved. His temp ban will expire soon and I hope he learns a lesson. If he feels unduly slighted I would invite him to message Av, or create a thread in the Contact a Moderator sub-forum.

What is the lesson learned here? Gunner is curious.

Correct. I know lots of people worldwide who also prefer to not share their locations publicly on the internet. You do realize that a majority of the places people explore never make it on to UER? There's probably a reason for that.

While I actually think the original poster here displayed excellent discretion in the photos he chose to post, and the moderators' decision to discipline Gunner may (to some extant) be justified, the above statement is wrong on multiple levels. But hey, not everyone gets it, and not everyone can explore here. It's alright.

I also just want to add that I don't have a problem with the photos here. They are from some pretty cool spots, but you'd never know where unless you had already been there yourself or the place no longer exists (e.g. scaffolding). If you're going to post pics, this is a good way to go about it in my opinion. Yeah, it's probably boat time...

How many water vessels have been sunk in the Mississippi over the years from drunk MSP explorers doing weird shit?

Gunner may be temp banned easily, but he'll be back and in greater numbers!
