I managed to reach a Nike base I've had on my radar for a while, and arrived at night. Shortly after visiting the first two buildings, security showed up. They were probably looking for people who had some bright lights who were also in the area, but I managed to elude them. I did manage to get a few mediocre shots, though. I definitely want to visit more of these, as nature has very much taken them over. Also on the same day I went to Skull Cliff, which must have taken somebody a lot of time to paint.

That's wild. All the Nikes in my area have been replaced with housing. Also, is that a siren in picture 2?

Nike bases around here seem to be vanishing too. Many to exactly that. I was wondering what that was, and I think you might be on to something. Thanks!

Daylight exploring generally works a lot better.
Just when I thought I was out... they pulled me back in. |

Isn't that the truth. I always seem to get caught up on the "just one more site" mentality on a trip and end up at a place in the dark, and it never, ever seems to go as well as the rest of the day does.

Sorry new to this but what does 'Nike' mean??

Meh it happens especially in the winter. Most sites get a lot more dicey at night. Generally not worth the risks except for special exceptions like underground bunkers that are light sealed anyway. Otherwise with a predawn entry you get the best of both worlds. A stealth entry and a day's worth of working light.

Nike: Greek mythologies winged goddess of victory (a fitting name for the US Army's surface to air missile system especially the ones fitted with a 15kt nuke payload)
