"The collapse of Hanjin Shipping, South Korea’s biggest container shipping line, has sparked concerns the vessels won’t be able to pay docking fees and handling charges or their cargo might be seized by creditors, prompting many ports in the U.S., Asia and Europe to turn them away. As many as 85 Hanjin ships are stranded around 50 ports in 26 countries, according to the company." http://www.bloombe...two-hanjin-vessels If this goes on long enough for the crews to panic or run out of food, they'll head for the nearest beach. The ships and their cargo will be in the courts for years. No commercial port in its right mind will want to be stuck with them.

This could potentially quite cool. But I doubt those ships wouldn't be heavily guarded. Samsung has been really fucked over lately. First, their new phones start exploding and now their goods are all stuck on ships.
Never waste a day. |

I'd tend to agree. Stuff shipped in those intermodal containers is usually pretty high-valued consumer goods; I can't imagine they would just be left to rot without anyone keeping watch. Though stranger things have happened.

They probably wont be sitting out at sea abandoned. Likely ownership will be given to another Korean company with a lot of the same creditors. Also considering Hanjin Group also owns Korean Air, they have plenty of money in affiliates that could be put to use if they can get another restructuring plan off the ground. But I heard one ship has an artist in residence currently trapped at sea. Imagine being her.

Not that the cargo would have stayed ghost cargo for long, but it looks like there's a chance that Hanjin gets bailed out

It's not going to be a good Christmas for Samsung. Oh my...

I don't know... exploding phones and the resultant fires do kind of lend a cheeriness to a room.

A good marketing spin can save the day... Samsung's new line of Mission Impossible self destructing smart phones. Every limited IQ jihadist will want one... to use, simply plug in. Looks like it was very bad timing for Samsung to foolishly do away with the removable battery. Now this further shipping delay really fucks them proper.

especially with the advent of the messianic iPhone 7... lol.

I wonder how long without pay it would take the crews to start looting containers and making off with lifeboats full of iPhones and Nikes The captain and officers would probably hold out for a while, but I bet there are some crew members who are only one paycheck away from turning pirate.

Heh, no, they won't head for the nearest beach. Once they run out of food and/or water, they will declare an emergency on board, and the nearest port *must* accept them according to law.
