need y'all advice on p.o.e. (dear moderators, i searched for another thread titled 'point of entry' and one titled 'p.o.e.' but did not find either.)
i've been scoping a specific site and have found a number of points of entry, but am not sure which is best.
- i am going with a friend - we aim to go at dawn, on a saturday, so we hope many will still be asleep - the premises are a block - the premises are secured by fence - most of the fence has barbed wire across the top, but not all (see below) - there are sporadic 'no trespassing' signs, but they are few and far between - i have not seen cameras, but have not specifically looked for them either - every now and again i see cops perched at a specific spot looking for speeders, but neither of my poe's are visible from this spot
here are my options... 1) slide under a gap in the fence - the gap seems big enough if my friend and i hold it up for each other, but it may be a little tight 2) at this point ^ the barbed wire is cut for about 10' of length, so climbing the fence is an option too 1 & 2) are the closest of the three options to a building to hide behind 3) there is a gate that is not locked that leads down a path, but our visibility would be for a greater length of time (although I like knowing there are two ways out)
also, i cannot see any building p.o.e.'s from the perimeter and google isn't too much help on that front either, although with google, i do see a few hidden buildings. there is graffiti at the top of one building and there is a staircase on the outside of this building, so roof access is definite.
i like to be as prepared as possible and am still a newbie, so any reflections / ideas would be greatly appreciated. -thx

Chain link fence I'm guessing? How good are you at climbing a fence and transitioning over the top to climb down the other side? When is the last time you or the other person climbed over a fence? Some people can fly over chain link with ease. But, I've seen more than a few people get their pants snagged on the top links while going over the top.
It was in September, we saw their silhouettes fade away, outlined on the horizon against the rays of the setting sun. |

- not a pro, but adequate

If you're going to climb over chain link you have a few things to consider. I always wear gloves but before you climb over you have to check if the top is sharp/rusty. I have more than once been going over a fence and when vaulting over the top, put the chain link right into my hand. If you're going to go under. Make sure that you also will not be cut when trying to slide under the fence if you make contact with it. From the sound of it I don't really like the front option as you should probably minimize the amount of time you are out in the open but, if no one is around I would absolutely pick that over a fence that I couldn't jump safely (pretty good at jumping fences as I'm 6'3'') Really up to you but I would check out the fence before hopping it. Good luck, come back with pictures!

good call on the gloves. makes me think a waxed canvas jacket or something with a little structure would also assist in not getting cut or scraped when going under.

yes, from what people keep telling, minimum time exposure is a maximum priority. it stinks though cause it is such an easy point of entry!

thanks so much for the advice Marsden107! And I most def will come back with pics

Scout it again. Does it have power? If it has power it increases the risk of active cams and alarms. Go predawn and once inside wait for dawn. Bonus golden 15 minutes of the sun rising for shots. If you scale the fence only do so at corners or preferably a gate. Wear shoes that have toes that can purchase a grip on the hinges at the gate. Take your time and pass gear over the gate; don't wear it. Getting hung up on even a chain link can tear tender parts bad... don't. Climbing mid span is a big no-no. If you go under, don't get hung up on the chain link, dig it out a bit. This may be a better option if you're afraid you don't have enough upper body strength for an over the top fence assault. Practice on a "safe" fence if you never scaled one with a friend. Your can get hurt bad if you aren't prepared and careful. Once inside check building outsides and insides for cams and motion sensors. If they are powered it likely is an active system. Check doors and windows for alarm switches. Verify the electric is off for the complex if possible. Off is a good sign. Meter(s) pulled or high voltage at the primary transformers(s) disconnected or their breakers dangling there or at the pole. You should look for this when scouting. Truly abandoned buildings don't have power...

i'm almost 1000% certain it does not, but i will take another scouting trip at night to double check

a total bonus and goal

i'm def going to go under or over the short fence / through the gate. based on what y'all have said, why climb and risk climbing when there are two better options? the fence to crawl under seems easy enough and big enough to safely crawl under if we hold it for each other and wear protective clothing. there shouldn't bee too much digging out needed, but there is a little.

You only see the cam's they want you to see. Smart cam networks (I doubt this has one) are redundant, and the cam's can be almost undetectable especially at a distance. Their area of surveillance can be thousands of yards, typically 10-500 feet. They are truly smart as they monitor specific zones, can monitor for specific activities, vehicles, license tags, even persons. They can actively "learn" as they acquire data including matching returning vehicles/people to the area and indexing it with an alert on the more sophisticated systems. Smart cams are always fixed, and may not seem like a big deal except there will be overlapping coverage by other other cams with movement in their zones intelligently being tracked by computer. These can be very formidable systems... I hate them. Fortunately they are pricey and generally found in high dollar active facilities and public places like airports. Some cities use them as well.

Unless it's a good sized hole, I go over; it's easier for me. Breaching a straight line of fence where there's a tree or telephone pole next to the fence pole can make for a easier and safer climb. Look for the easiest ways in. Digging requires tools and could result in additional charges if caught. The hole is a visible sign of a breach. Digging can get tough fast if you hit roots, concrete, rocks, etc.

sooo... forgive what will seem like complete ignorance (and is)... here's what i found regarding lights and cameras (see pics - even scoping is a rush!)... the site is pretty worn down, lots of broken windows, decent amount of graffiti... and i'm pretty sure there is no hi-tech camera system. annnd, it's really cool to have you guys 'along for the ride' on this one. 1.

If you look at the fuses you can see they are open; no power going to the transformers. It also appears as if the lines going to fuses are disconnected. Unless there's a small secondary line and meter that's been set up there should be no power. Be wary if there is... looks good to go. Good luck on your mission, Miss deals.
Note: those lights are off at night, right? What is that steel conduit going to above the lights? Lightning rod?

The looks more like an antenna. Lightning rods and suppressors generally have pointed ends. Odd little critter, not sure what it was for.

Lady, just go, you will be fine. Many people have been in there already. Just be careful about the local "wildlife". I will send you some more info on the place.

so... i went under the fence and it was soooo easy! the gap was actually pretty big and the fence easy enough to lift so that no scraping/cutting occurred. it was helpful though to wear tennies, blue jeans, and a long sleeve shirt. while perhaps common sense, all of the guidance above helped a lot. i see the addiction of ue! gawd it is such a rush! all was cleaned out, but the site was a handful of structures, including bunkers, that were each cool in their own right. a few pics from the site... 1.
