New in the Toronto Area

Hi everyone,
I've wanted to get into urbex for a while now, but haven't due to the lack of interest among my friend group. I was able to do a brief exploration of Regent Park - Duke of York Public School shortly before it was demolished. (Pics here)

Another challenge for me is finding things to explore in Toronto, as things get turned over and/or demolished very quickly. Ontario Abandoned Places has a number of locations that are very close to me, but their information is sorely out of date.

Any help finding and learning how to explore locations would be much appreciated. Plus, if anyone wants to explore a location in the city, let me know, I'd be down.

One day I got a good camera.

There's a monthly meetup in Toronto via UER that you might want to attend.

Take advantage of the quick turnover! POEs are a lot easier when a place is under demolition, and if you're up for it climbing highrises under construction is a big thrill.

Definitely second yokes' answer though - come to the meets, best way to meet people!

Honestly not sure how I'd feel about climbing condos. While I'm not afraid of being high off the ground, it's certainly not my favourite place to be.

Some places I was thinking about scoping out:

  • Mr. Christie's Bakery (Closed a while ago, it will almost certainly be demolished for condos)
  • The Good News Church on St. Clair (Not sure when it closed, but I passed by there recently and it's being turned into lofts)
  • Tower Automotive
  • Honeydale Mall if it hasn't been demolished yet
  • I believe I saw a closed school in the Weston/Mt. Dennis area, but it's a little out of the way to go, especially if it's been demolished by now, or is inaccessible
  • Honest Ed's; I will certainly go a couple times over the next few months and photograph the store and area as much as I can while it's still open for business. The store and others on the street will be closed and demolished in 2017

Honeydale is indeed still kicking, I drive past it every few weeks or so. Every time I've seen it, there has been at least one security car parked next to the building. I'd love to check it out too, but even searching for a POE - let alone getting inside - would be tough with the constant patrols. That being said, I'm sure it could be done... somehow.

I read in a some-what recent post that there was occasional patrol of the mall property, but I didn't think it was that thorough.

I went the other day to Tower Automotive. They're in the process of gutting the building, but there's a really easy POE so long as people aren't walking around. There was a sign on the gate advertising that the site was under surveillance. I walked around the building looking for entry into the building, but the closest I could find was a boarded-up door with possibly just enough room I could squeeze through. The other side of the plywood was mostly rubble and there was a light on, so I didn't attempt to fit myself through the doorway.

It's still there, but all ways into the building have alarms on them.

Let me know what it's like. I'm not in Toronto right now, but if it's viable to get in there, I'd love to go.

I should also add, the school I mentioned on the list in Mt. Dennis, is Hardington Public School, which I made a thread about not long ago here: http://www.uer.ca/...=1&threadid=122737

Careful with Honeydale.... There's 1 poe but its not the best / they circle around the parking lot / youre really visible / unless you do it right they are onto you right away.

Inside is 'ok' .. but nothing crazy. Not like the American malls haha.

Fleeting if you need any help in Toronto hit me up.
