When the cops come?
< on 3/24/2016 3:06 PM >
Posted on Forum: UER ForumQuote
A longing question I've had, and I realize this is more a personal preference and common sense thing, but I'm curious: If you think you can get away and run like Hell... Should you? A bit of info about WHY I'm asking: I've cycled a LOT of hobbies trying to find my thing (Urbex is definitely it!) I did a bit of parkour (Bout a summer class for $30 last year(?) and so I occasionally practice. Now, given that, if the police are looking for me, let's say in this scenario they don't have dogs because who runs from dogs? And I cold easily get away, should I? Or is it a dumb idea?

I would never run from the cops as an adult (totally did as a kid). I have hid from the cops a few times though. In most cases, they are only going to look so much before they say fuck it and leave ( if they even enter the building at all) . Depends on the place really. Waiting them out has worked for me. I don't know if running from them ( if they have for sure seen you) is the best idea. The more you piss them off, the more trouble you are going to have to deal with. If a cops sees you and you decide to take off running, you are pretty fucked once they catch you.Again, depends on the place. You have a better shot if you hide and wait for them to move or leave than just trying to out run them.

If you are damn sure you can get away clean then do it. Always better to avoid run ins with the police. BUT - if it doesn't look like a clean getaway is likely, then just accept your fate and deal with them respectfully. If you run but get caught you will likely receive an additional charge such as resisting arrest or something and then they will take you down to the station etc. A simple trespassing ticket can usually be issued onsite without having to be taken anywhere.

If you see them and they don't see you, then yes. If they see you before you see them, then you should probably not run. However, if the place you're in happens to have a tunnel system and you're too far away for the officer to pick up on any real details, then it's up to you.

I would never do anything to make myself look suspicious or add charges. Usually the police will let you go if your friendly/polite/play dumb. I would sneak away if they hadn't seen me yet, but unless I was really sure I would get away I wouldn't run. Also if you're in a small local area the police may recognize you in the future as someone who ran away (and was presumably up to no good.)

Always run from security, never run from police

If unsure, surrender- this isn't worth taking a bullet or exacerbating the situation

A bullet? Please. As long as I'm reasonably sure I can get away (single cruiser, open woods at my disposal), I'll run every time. I've done it twice that I can think of, worked out fine both times.

Resisting arrest/evading&eluding are felonies in most states. If the cops have seen you, running is a gamble with harsh penalties for losing. Sometimes you don't know how weak your shit is until you play your hand, and then it's too late. Damage control makes sense if all you're doing is trespassing.

Once in NJ I was in the wood line with a square mile+ of heavy cover and they couldn't see me. Trespassing was the worst they could get me for. So I came out. A good thing I did. Unknown to me they had a full perimeter set up, had my car, and were fixing to get K9s. Had I choose to evade them the freedom would have been temporary and they would have gotten a felony conviction more than likely.

Many times cops really don't care about trespassing during daylight hours if that's all you're doing. Evading and eluding them is guaranteed to piss them off. If you do that... Don't get caught!

Just when I thought I was out... they pulled me back in.

There are some here who have successfully eluded K9s.

Valid point. Everyone deals with cops differently. I've just been very lucky so far. I hope to never be hunted down by dogs.

Personally, I would not run from the police. However, I'm sure if you have a 100% chance of getting away, you should take the opprotunity.

If you're emerging from a sketchy ass dilapidated building sporting a crow bar, respirator, and other equipment, I wouldn't be surprised if you were shot by a property owner OR the police in a stand your ground state.

A misdemeanor trespassing charge (if they'd even bother to charge you with it) isn't worth getting shot at or possibly mirked.

Not directed at anyone in particular; but don't let your ego get in the way. Just because you think you're a hard-ass & can run from the police doesn't mean you necessarily should.

I think he meant that the police most likely would not open fire. They would draw their weapon, but not open fire because you just walked out a door; respirator and crowbar or not.

You'll be sorry if you have a crowbar and it better not be in your hand; deadly weapon.
You better show your empty hands and wait for the LEOs to tell you what to do. I've had a 12 gauge pointed at my chest from 10 feet away. I wasn't scarred but the results are final. Compliance is everything. If you're non complaint they will take you down hard. Feel like being tackled, maybe a broken rib and gear?

Do NOT fuck around if cops have their weapons drawn; they mean business.

This isn't a game.
Cops make mistakes, get mad, just like everyone else, keep that in mind. Plus would you rather have a misdemeanor trespassing ticket and go home or felony charges and stay in jail until you're arraigned and bail is set?

I meant they aren't gonna be waiting at the door and light you up as soon as you walk out the door just because you have on a crowbar and a respirator like the post above made it seem.

But I agree, do not mess around with a cop. I won't be carrying a crowbar around either way.

If they were waiting for SWAT or setting up a perimeter they sure could be covering an exit. No telling what they were told either, they could be responding to another call too.

All it takes is some dumb ass 13 yo cunt telling their mom a man with rifle (tripod) walked by and went wherever.
Been there, done like that. The cop's finger was on the trigger, he wasn't playing around. A #12 at 10 feet is lethal.

While exploring a hot site, don't smoke, keep noise and talk to a minimum. Investigate any sounds. Check the area outside by standing away from the windows and looking out periodically especially before exiting the building. These habits have saved me more than once from LEOs/guards, and let me get the drop on others. The sooner you spot someone, the more time and options you have. Spot them before they spot you or your shit is going to be weak...

There was a place nearby me where two guys went in with saws to gut and steal copper. My local pd and state pd responded with 10+ officers, a swat team that was ready to enter after him, a k-9 unit. It was ridiculous. Nothing ever happens in my area so this was their time to shine. Ironically after the guys were caught you could see the guys sitting there talking to cops with no hand cuffs or anything.

I've gone exploring a time or two and I've never had a crowbar or a respirator on my person. I'm taking photos. What the fuck would I need a disguise and a weapon for? I don't wanna get shot.
