I mentioned that I bough a 1974 Toyota FJ55 Land Cruiser. Looking at a couple of things to give me a bit more oomph and wondered if ya'll had any input. It's already got a Weber carb, so I'm thinking next would be a header, 2.5" pipes, high flow muffler, switch over to an electric fan and a modern electronic distributor. Not trying to make a rock crawler, but I could use a few more MPH on the highway. Currently running on 32"s with no lift. I've been running Range Rovers for years, and the little V-8 makes plenty of go. This is a different deal. I don't want to get crazy and start milling heads, just bolt ons por favor. Thanks for any advice!
I have changed my personal exploring ethics code. From now on it will be: "Take only aimed shots, leave only hobo corpses." Copper scrappers, meth heads and homeless beware. The Jonsered cometh among you, bringing fear and dread. | |
I'm no gearhead, but unless you are turning off the fan on the highway, the alternator is just going be be drawing heavier for the electric fan causing a comparable (if not more?) decrease in horsepower. One think you may consider adding if you are on dirty roads a lot is an external and elevated air intake. May or may not increase the HP but your airbox will be hella cleaner.
