This is one of the areas most prominent abandoned churches. Built in 1887 and closed down in 1993, it was originally planned to be demolished almost immediately. However it was saved from the wrecking ball and has sat slowly decaying ever since. Despite being a fairly popular spot in the city the amount of graffiti and vandalism is not to bad. Most of the decay seems to be natural and is surely not helped by the bird droppings literally carpeting the upper levels. After exploring the small, medieval dungeon looking basement we found a hatch in the ceiling and entered the main church room Indiana Jones style.

Climbing the belltower:

They keep going and going and going....
Stairway to Heaven:

I'll end with two shots from a nice little park by the river that we found on the way home after making a wrong turn. Sometimes it's nice to wind down in a spot like this after a day of exploring.

Nice set - beautiful location. I'm an atheist, but have enough respect for other people's faith to never damage a church. It's a shame that there are people who dont share my same restraint...

I am an atheist as well and could never imagine doing damage to a church or sacred place. In general churches seem to be left alone more than other abandoned buildings. It's a shame a tagger had to leave his mark right below one of the best architectural spots of this church. To each their own I suppose, taggers gonna tag.

Never really understood the need to tag anything . . . . Relatively clean location though and a beautiful set.
I'm sorry Your Honor, it will never happen again ! |

Kabbalah is an undramatic tradition that requires great patience and stability. One of the reasons for this tempo is that everyone has to mature his potential gradually and thoroughly at his natural pace. In this way his life's work unfolds at the right moment in his own and the cosmos's time. Z.B.S. Halevi -- Kabbalah |

Thanks!! I have been pretty busy in the past few months. I have lots of sets I need to post in the near future. We were blessed with a very mild Fall this year, so we were able to get out quite a bit before the snow hit. This spot was from one of our late Fall trips.

We have lots of churches here. This one is on the larger size compared to most. I have a bunch on my list to check out this year. Between the Rays is one of my favorite shots I took. It came out good for a phone shot, but I know a good camera would have caught those rays of light wayyyy better. It was a very cool sight.
