Easy to get in.. Not so easy getting out!!

So as i traveled north out of Florida and headed to another job a few states away I decided to pay a visit to a juvenile detention/training school. Unfortunately I dropped my camera as I found my way over the fence. And it started acting up as soon as i entered my first building... In anger after 10 minutes of messing with it and trying to make it work I accidentally smashed it against a brick wall... So anyways these are all phone shots.. We got in and explored a few of the dilapidated buildings on the campus first and made sure not to draw any attention as there was a guard on campus sitting up near the main entrance. After having my fill of the boring cafeteria, a chapel, a barber shop, so living quarters, and a few other buildings, I entered some smaller cells in little pods called "cottages" if i remember correctly.. Then after seeing those moved on to a garage that was there on Site and checked it out.. All the while avoiding the back building because I kept seeing flood lights coming on and off.. After a few hours I grew bored and decided that I must check out the far building I had been steering clear of.. Turns out the building was a prison style and help many wings of cells, common areas, visitation rooms, and the stuff you would generally expect to see In a jail. Want to know the best part?? All the power was still on and the water.  There was a control room and the main panel for the cell doors and the other doors in the building still worked. And a computer sat on a desk and fired right up.

When it was finally time to call it a night is when the true fun began. I was hasty to jump the fence And climb over the barn wire.. Not realizing I wouldn't be able to get back out.. They had installed a screen on the fence on the inside that prevented you from being able to climb out.. So with a lot of thought and running around the property to gather things to wedge in the corner of the fence to make a ladder-like exit I was able to get out after nearly an hour.. Hope you enjoy the few pictures I took with my phone that didn't turn out terribly..

Pretty cool looking spot. Very similar to one that was just demolished in New Jersey.

Hey, even for phone shots, you made this place look pretty neat. I'd like to find out more about the location, and when it was active from because the dark room and film negatives are pretty cool!

thanks for giving it a try

The Passaic County Youth Detention Center in Haledon, Passaic County. It wasn't really "abandoned" for very long, it was used by the police for storage and demolished abruptly. I only made it inside once. I'll post photos when I'm not on mobile.

Edit: As promised.

At least you made it out. The last juvenile detention facility I did I got locked in and had to call the cops to get me out! Good job on the infil/exfil and a good lesson to everyone. When you're going in make sure you have a plan for getting out and if possible have a backup plan in case something happens to your planned "escape".

Hahahaha the same exact thing happened to a few friends of mine at the place I posted above. They almost had to call someone too, since it was hot as hell in there. Thankfully they had some other friends with them, and someone found a sledgehammer...
