Places You Wish Were Abandoned

I was thinking about this the other day and I know I have discussed this with some friends before but I would love to know everyone else's opinions as well! To make it more difficult, maybe list your top one or three...

I'm going to go with the White House. I'm also going to restrain myself from listing more so take it away!

There's the crazy one, the photographer, and me, the driver, a mix of both. And we're a pretty kickass team if I do say so myself.

All of Pyongyang, so not only could I explore it but also the state would be destroyed.

I would really to see an abandoned version of the Tower City Mall and Terminal Tower in Cleveland. It's a pretty massive building with two hotels, a Casino, a subway station, and a 50 story skyscraper. It would never happen but it would be interesting if it was abandoned. I hope it never is though because I use that train station to get to work and eat lunch there all the time.

The cottage of the people next to our cottage, who always stay up until 4am yelling and blasting loud music...

Also, considering how slow Toronto's transit is sometimes, the subway might as well be abandoned as well. It would make for some excellent underground bike trails.

Speaking of how slow Toronto's transit is, did you see all that shit on twitter about the raccoon that died waiting for the bus?

Its a very large, historic and very well funded assisted living home.

Can you imagine if Casa Loma in Toronto was abandoned? The tunnels, the towers, the ballrooms, oh MY GOD! I mean, it's a major tourist attraction and is way too big to just be left to rot in an area like that, but I can dream, right?

My home city is the home of the Mini - both the old one and the 'new' BMW-owned Mini. The factory is absolutely staggeringly enormous, the biggest single factory I have ever seen. So yeah, that.

It's also home to two of the largest general hospitals as well, very close to each other. So those as well.

Apart from the massive stuff there is still a fully operational beautiful Victorian built asylum too, which has no plans on closing but I'd love to be able to have a nose around that...

You know, it's funny. Whenever I drove by this catholic school I always thought it would be an amazing place to explore. Huge building with amazing architecture, and lots of interesting rooms from back earlier in it's history.

Well, last year it officially closed down and has since been abandoned

Seeing that reminded me of a similar school in my home town that unfortunately has no plans on closing any time soon. It really does remind me of an American school.

School? Prison?

I was curious myself sooooo I performed a magic trick to find out. My findings were beyond the comprehension of the human mind...

On a broader note, I'm loving these responses! I would add this place to my list.

The West Valley Demonstration Project in Ashford, NY. Operated from the 60s until 1980 as Western New York Nuclear Service Center. It was a nuclear fuel reprocessing center, the only privately owned facility to operate in the US.

Since closure they have been working to clean up the place. I drive by here on my way down to the Southern Tier when I go to my cabin. I have been thinking for years what a cool place it would be to explore, but there is always activity here.
The fact that it is in a rural setting makes it all the more appealing to me.
