Looking for some abandoned buildings in Chicago. Can be warehouses, factories, office buildings.
I'm trying to find places to sleep and take naps for in the winter. So prefer ones were it isn't all broken glass and therefore cold/snowy.
I been to the Damen silos (grain towers) and it is all sand at the bottom, and so many people know about it it's probably a nice place for privacy.
The buildings down in the South Deering neighborhood on Torrence seem a little too broken down but it's a little bit too far south for me.

I currently live in the abandoned building on 35th/Ashland. Moved in 2 weeks ago, and therefore, pay rent to nobody. I'm just doin it to say money. I picked this location because it is only 5 blocks from where I work at. It's actually 4 buildings conjoined into 1.
So far nothing has been stolen. I keep a piece of paper on both sides of my blanket "Welcome to my room. College student sleeping here for the winter. Cell number."
But then it just got me worried what if 1 day I get caught or my stuff is stolen or building is demolished, then I would have to find another place to stay. Since this is in the South side, then I would want a location on the North side.
Throughout the past 7 years of having a Facebook I've acquired several UE friends. Messaged a bunch of them, some of them gave me a lot of locations within walking distance. But 1 person gave me 2 abandoned hospital locations on the North side (Edgewater and Cuneo). Which I might look into.

Regaling us with stories from your experience living in abandoned places will probably get you somewhere on this forum. Asking for handouts will not. Just my two cents.
There's the crazy one, the photographer, and me, the driver, a mix of both. And we're a pretty kickass team if I do say so myself. |

Abandoned buildings not so much my speciality, but it seems to be somewhat extinct on the city's North side.

It's kind of unsanitary to do any police training.
However, you probably confused 35th/Ashland with 35th/Michigan - the police headquarters.

Nope. They definitely do police (maybe swat?) training there. On multiple occasions, we've seen several cruisers and such parked there. Locals will verify this, if they read this thread.

There was a day where a bunch of police cars (and detectives) were all exiting the place. And about a week ago, there was a day there was a whole swarm of White people, with their video cameras, setting up equipment. I saw them when I left around 7 a.m., and they were leaving around 6 p.m. I caught 1 of them at the bus stop that night and he said they were filming. So this place does get some kind of attention.

More likely than not, Chicago*land* will be the abandonment capital of the midwest in 20 years. Due to the Illinois system being effectively set up by cronies to require astronomically high taxes for the long run. And suburbs are falling out of favor.
Just give it time.

Nah, the NIMBYs up here like to bulldoze shit left and right in the suburbs. Nothing really lasts long unless it's in Waukegan.

I was thinking UE was something in the 2000s, so by now, all the major abandoned buildings here have either already been explored, or are demolished.
Looking at the forum database for Chicago a lot of them are already demolished, so it's just a matter of finding something new or waiting for another company to foreclose/relocate.
Chicago right now is going to get higher property taxes and the city's minimum wage increase going up too.

The database you can see is public. The full member database has mostly abandonments that cannot be seen by regular members as we wish to preserve and protect them from barbarians.
I'm confused by your initial statement. "...all major buildings here have either already been explored or are demolished". By virtue of them being in the database itself, wouldn't that automatically mean they were explored?
