I keep an Excel spreadsheet with this info: Name of abandonment Description/Notes Coordinates State City Physical Address and Directions Travel time to destination Category Visits Excel is helpful because it can be sorted by any column. EDIT: And I NEVER drink. I see the remains of alcohol at almost every abandonment that's just a recipe for disaster.

Exactly. More ways to make fun a boring pain in the ass just like work HSRs.
Just when I thought I was out... they pulled me back in. |

I also have a "lessons learned" column. I try to put something into it after every excursion. Reading back on those things after nearly 1000 hours of logged time exploring is one of the most useful ways I can prepare for anything risky or dangerous.

Excellent thread. I keep notes on number of visits, potential probs, POEs, what I saw, etc. I keep the notes in a Notebook in Evernote, so I can use it and sync on phone and laptop. Evernote also lets you put in pics, if you need.

If you're in the Midwest, try not to step in my UE logs.. I try my best to leave them in places one doesn't walk.
