I often get leads on abandonments from unlikely sources. A few months back I was hanging out at my friends place when his dad mentioned a steel mill he used to haul out of when he drove truck in the 70s. Later that night I was talking with a friend I often explore with about our plans for the following day. Turns out she had heard of this place, but had never been inside. The next day we headed out with very good directions from my buddies dad. The place was easy enough to find. The fact that it sits on the property of a active steel mill makes entering a bit tricky. The only possible way onto the property was by some active businesses. After waiting until 5 when all the workers went home we made our way onto the property. Waiting around all afternoon was absolutely worth it! Being on a active site has it's advantages. Signs of scrap thieves, taggers and vandals were damn near non existent. Some of the equipment had been removed, but what remained sat untouched by everything but the elements since the early 80s. The company that owned this mill for most of it's life specialized in working with radioactive metals, primarily uranium and thorium. They even worked on The Manhattan Project in the 40s and 50s. Little to the public's knowledge the company was dumping the waste from these chemicals on site for many years. The original company has insulated itself from any cleanup liability, and the company who owned it most recently has long since gone bankrupt. This leaves cleanup cost to the town and state. Since both are pretty much broke these buildings will likely slowly be reclaimed by the earth for the foreseeable future. This was my first large industrial explore (not including silos) and has been my favorite place I have been this year. All pictures were taken with my phone and this is my first time messing around with editing, so any advice or constructive criticism would be very much appreciated!

Thanks all!! Everything was shot with my iPhone 6 and I edited with Picasa, which is a free program. I don't really know any technical stuff as far as editing goes so I just messed around until I got the look I wanted. Much of the credit should go to the location as it was VERY photogenic, especially in summertime. Green + Rust = A amazing picture every time as far as I'm concerned.

Thanks Much for Invading my visual senses with this Industrial set. Right off you made a hit with the Solitary Man...then, That dusty, lint littered typewriter is Awesome! LOVE that fern! It like a hot house in there, so it grows well My fave has got to be the Smooth Operator..... like the lighting, the colors, and the rusty bent beam. Excellent set Swan! 👍👍

damn...awesome set, and awesome location. Keep it safe!

Thanks for all the positive comments people! We went at the perfect time of year, all the plant growth inside was amazing. Green and rust is always a winning combination for me. The location of this place makes it difficult, if not impossible for scrappers to come and go undetected. Your average tagger/vandal/punk kid would rather go to a place more easily accessible, of which there are plenty around here. My friend who I went with runs a Facebook page called Abandoned 716. She has had a lot of people asking about this location. But we are keeping this one to ourselves. Relatively untouched buildings are becoming harder and harder to come by in Western New York.

Thanks man! Yup iPhone 6, it takes some great shots assuming lighting is good. Did some editing on these as well, planning on getting a camera before years end.

Dude, since I've been on this forum...hands down coolest place I've seen. The radioactive part is sketchy, doesn't uranium last for like 1,000 years?

This is an insanely cool spot! And that radio you found looks to have been from a falcon/comet/ford pickup!

Great pictures! Really love those ferns, but I haven't that many ferns in any other building, I wonder why they chose this one.
