Hey swicker, I'm sorry to hear about your ordeal. Some friends and I made a similar trip just this Saturday. We parked where the snow plow stopped and walked the rest of the way. The owner said it would only take us about an hour and 15 minutes to do the walk but it took like 3 hours to reach the building because of the deep snow. I'm planning on making a forum post later today with more detail and pics.

Did you arrange a visit with the owner? Is the write-up coming?
|
|
Yes, and the write up is in this forum, it's called "A Winter Day at Camp Bison".

Well from the sounds of it, they'll only catch you if you call them first. http://www.greater...-treaspassing.aspx The article does mention a fine of $2,000... but I doubt it was. They most likely got off with trespassing and all had to pay $65 each.

LOL at times during the hike it felt like my group of 4 was gonna end up like that.

Did this guy seriously think that people would all of a sudden stop going there and doing what they've been doing for so many years just because he bought the land? Without any fences or anything? Like yeah if you buy an old decrepit building that's been falling apart for decades, you can't store valuable things in there without fixing it up a bit. Why is that a surprise?

The sign said "Anybody caught trespassin will be shot on sight" So I jumped on the fence and I yelled at the house, "Hey! What gives you the right?" http://www.flickr.com/photos/evman/ |

Historic logos nicked from old Sudbury-area prison "There are all kind of images of them on the Internet, because whenever someone went there, they would take pictures of them," he says. Someone went a step further in the past year or so, however, and took the actual plaques. That couldn't have been a simple task, says Reynolds, as the embossed designs were cemented into the side of the building. "Whoever did it must have used a gas cut-off saw," he says. "And it probably took two or three guys, because they would weigh quite a lot." The landowner has notified the OPP of their absence and is hoping someone will come forward with knowledge of their whereabouts, or the party that removed them will recognize they made a mistake and voluntarily return them. http://www.thesudb...bury-area-prison-2

"My whole goal has been to try to preserve what's left, and those are artifacts." Bull. Crap. His goal the entire time is to make a profit off of people who want to explore the site, and he knew it was a popular exploration location BEFORE he bought the place. He's had two years to do something - literally anything - with the property, and he hasn't. So... He's a wicked liar.

If anyone that wants to spend the night (for a modest $200/night), I found Burwash on Airbnb...... (you get to skip the hike, they'll boat you in) https://www.airbnb...3380603?s=upX_kQYP

A cryptic owner giving a droning interview in shades, a lazy tv journo doing a limp interview and a network airing a slow news day item. The place was a deteriorating mess 10 years ago... with graffiti. No news there.. move along nothing new to see there

Access to property 20$ per person ( sign waiver) plus 10$ per person per night to camp out in your own tent. Undergoing renovations. Will make a great museum .
