Is the Howard Johnsons on the roof of the parking garage next door open? It looks like the lights are on.
Buildings have two natural enemies- water, and bears. |

Wasn't able to get in last time i was in Memphis. But luckily got to explore a taller building! Memphis had a lot of stuff but last i checked most of it was demolished. Can't believe they haven't done anything with this yet.

The owners have a 99-year lease on the building which ends 2025. When that time comes, the building is handed over to a real estate agency per the signed contract. City officials believe they're just mothballing the building until then.

The original lease of land for the property, dating from the late 1920s, required the $1,500 monthly payment to be paid in gold coin “of standard weight and fineness or its equivalent.” An unsuccessful 1975 lawsuit by the land owners sought to recalculate the rent at the then-current price of gold, or roughly $13,500 per month. |
- Wikipedia That might have something to do with it too.
