Posted by Jonsered All legit concerns, and none of them PREVENT access. Yep, mines can be bad news, but with a little care and some basic equipment, its about as much fun as you can have exploring. Get your shit straightened out, take a level headed buddy and do it. I will revisit one particular point: old iron mines have bad air OFTEN. the rust process explains that. Be cool, have fun, and I look forward to the pics.

What makes you think we do not have our shit straightened out? Or that we are not "level headed"? Months of planning goes into each exploration. We have the original mine maps, blue print drawings, and mine reports of each mine from the time the mines opened right up to the present, We do our own assessments of what each mine site is like (including the hazards) and record our findings, we then go back to the "open adits" and check to see if the mines are in assessable or flooded condition. We then look to see what kind of rock the back and ribs of the mine consists of (ex. shale or hematite) to see if the mine is prone to cave-ins. I myself will never step foot inside a mine as i don't like the risks, but my partner on the other hand can do what he likes and he also knows the risks. We take a lot of care in making sure we have the basic safety equipment. We are not teenagers nor are we professional miners but we are experts in both our fields and its always fun when you can combine work and urban exploring together. When we are finished our assessments preventing access is a priority.

My comment wasn't directed at you, it was to the original poster. Thanks for playing, and we've got some nice parting gifts for you.
I have changed my personal exploring ethics code. From now on it will be: "Take only aimed shots, leave only hobo corpses." Copper scrappers, meth heads and homeless beware. The Jonsered cometh among you, bringing fear and dread. | |
