This place is amazing, I got access to due to a tv shoot. It's normally closed to the public.

Hearn is an amazing place. For those who want legal (albeit severely truncated) access, be sure to check out UNSOUND at Luminato, on the 19th of this month : D

What's so scary about it? Only thing that scared me there was the security guards but you didn't have that problem. :p

The sign said "Anybody caught trespassin will be shot on sight"
So I jumped on the fence and I yelled at the house,

With all the big private functions that have been held there in the last couple of years and now the Luminato thing, it feels mainstream to me and has lost some appeal.

That's a really sad opinion. It's awesome they are finding ways to reuse it, it's an amazing space and there's only a few things left like it in Ontario.

I've gone there for 10 years now and still every time I go it's insanely cool.

Word to the wise though, and I wrote this in another thread. Be very cautious there as of late. Lots of tickets.

Going as an explorer will always be an awesome experience imo. Going to one of these parties, imo, is just stupid. I can't imagine the air quality is best in there, even with all the holes, add in dancing etc....

I think you might have misunderstood what I said. It's lost some of it's appeal for me from an exploring standpoint but I think it's great they're finding uses for it and opening it up for more people to see it.

I wouldn't be lining up for one of those parties though, my self-guided all access tours were way better.

That place has really gone to shit. I'd prefer to keep the 2004-2005 version in my memory.

+1. I do like how these events keep happening there. At least it's being used for something and it's nice to see it in another context, especially if it's an ambient music festival.

My first 'big' explore.

2005

Two years later....bye, bye generators, left to rust outside some of the first 100MW steam turbines in Canada.

And almost a year later...the rest of the floor follows suit.

The difference in Hearn from my first visit to my last has been huge. I miss when it was full of all the goodies, but the sheer size of the space and the stuff still left behind makes it a great spot to explore still.

My first visit there in 2003, the lights in the control room were still on... there was still power humming through the place. It was awesome.

I enjoy it every time I go. For what it is, just then. Building-hugging is just dandy, but this is a real place, and not an idea. All things go.
