Welcome to minnesota, where the locations are made up and your internet rep doesn't matter.

[last edit 4/3/2015 9:54 AM by shotgun mario - edited 1 times]

If you want to protect the locations you love to explore, don't talk about them online in public!
If you want to make exploring friends, send people private messages! Meet up in real life! Get off the internet!
Don't try to have a UER e-penis! You won't impress anyone! This especially means you, Minneapolis MN newbies!

Would it have killed you to be a little less uninviting considering it was their first post ever?

Maybe not, but obviously I wasn't willing to take that chance.

I'm reasonably certain this place won't suddenly crumble because of this thread. If it does, I'll ship you a beer.

Dude, NotBatman is far, FAR from being a dick. He's actually a spectacularly nice guy. Maybe he doesn't sugar coat things on the internet, but that's a necessity in our Twin Cities region. Call it "Minnesota Nice."

Besides, why should we be friendly to the original poster who was "forced" to visit our apparently miserable state, and then made their first post on UER publicly calling out one of our few remaining vacant structures?

It's not "your" site.

But hey, whatever. Carry on like you own all the abandoned locations in the state.

Well, technically speaking, I pay local taxes that help pay for groundskeeping and security at Fort Snelling, so in a fashion I do partially own it.

Not that I'm actually stupid enough to think I'm entitled to any kind of proprietary ownership, but us locals have some responsibility to take care of our local sites.

But hey, whatever. Carry on with these semantics like you know anything at all about the state of urban exploration in the Twin Cities.

In all seriousness though, NotBatman does have an exceptionally large penis.

Hey fucko, he said "state", not site.

How's hooked-on-phonics working for you?

Technically, I've buried the most dead hookers there, so it's really my "site."

I really don't want to lock this thread, as the OP's post is a good quality first post.

This is a web site for sharing experiences with exploring. You're welcome to keep your places secret all you want, but don't flame/bully others for not doing so. Keep it respectful please.

Jobobby, great post, thanks for sharing! And welcome to UER! Sorry you got such a negative reception from certain people...

It probably is advisable, when it comes to this geographic area and the way the community is up there, to not reveal locations too openly on future posts, that is, IF being accepted by the local online exploring community up there is important to you (which it may or may not be). That's completely your call though. You've done nothing wrong here.

it's technically Av-X's site, not that that actually means anything.

Oh cool!! Now I actually get to see first hand why so many FIRST TIME posters / NEW MEMBERS feel so amazingly welcome on UER!! Nice job elite members.

You know, I understand the feeling about not wanting locations boarded up. I like to explore the few places I have available in my area too. And, some of them have been boarded up from time to time because of exposure.

But you know what? In the end, we all come here for the same thing. To share what we've explored. No matter where it is, no matter WHO thinks it's "their" special place.

My most treasured and guarded place for the last 10 years is, right now, being plastered all over this site. So? Some one found and, got in, (which is not a small task) and is sharing what they found.

Remember.... You too were once new and excited to see and share. Think about it.

Well, you know what I mean. Boards, metal, 24 hour guard dogs. My point was NOT that a location becomes difficult to get into.

My point is the way we spout off elitist shit to new comers and make them feel unwelcome. You were new once too, and had no idea.

Rather than treat newcomers like crap, why not take them in and teach them some things about the art of exploring?

You don't know what I mean. I'll take your boards, metal, and security guards and raise you, 30 cubic feet of concrete, a pile of dirt and rubble 20 feet tall, and "lurking with the intent to commit a crime".

It's too bad that he was forced to come to MN, and had to suffer through an abandonment. Nice of him to plaster it all over. Had he read other Great Lakes posts, he probably would have known that the locals discourage the posting of locations, and telling the world exactly where they are. (Granted this one wasn't super difficult, but as noted, they're still in good shape and it would be sweet if they stays that way)

When I travel to other cities to explore, I ask people how things are out there before attempting things or posting pics. It's basic respect.

He's using this web site for its intended purpose. We're sympathetic to what you're saying, but it doesn't justify bashing this guy.

Can we drop it and go back to talking about the OP's photos now?

Granted, perhaps. But you make my case precisely. Your statement assumes the guy KNOWS to do that, or SHOULD know to do that. Maybe he doesn't. Maybe he has no idea. How could he? I had no idea whatsoever when I first started. He violated no rules whatsoever. He really did nothing against UER rules.

All I'm saying is rather than bashing the guy, let's help him know the in's and out's of this hobby we all love so much. But now, he's probably never going to post on here again, and we lost that opportunity.

Like DJ Craig said, let's go back to talking about the photos. This is an endless debate.

BTW, there is a reason Av posted a thread pinned to the top of Great Lakes Region entitled "NOTE: IF YOU ARE ASKED TO REMOVE YOUR POST or PHOTOS BY LOCALS, PLEASE REPORT THEM TO THE MODERATORS."

Granted, the public bashing didn't help the situation any.

At the risk of rehashing this old thing again....

Maybe there should be a section, a resource, for exactly this sort of thing. UER is a cool forum, but the idea that the entire world plays by the same set of rules/laws/guidelines is absurd. Perhaps a section explaining things about different areas would be a good thing. KC plays different from MSP, than STL, etc, in terms of culture, law, location type, and general public attitude.

I know something sort of like this exists in the Ontario section, and I found it very helpful before heading up that way. Fucking Canadians and their red-dot signs!! =P
