Dang yo! So what was the deal? Was the helicopter sent out for you/ how did they know you were in there?

The helicopter showed up just as I surfaced, out of nowhere! And announced over its PA that I was trespassing and to leave the area immediately. I wanted to get footage of the helicopter, but I thought that pointing anything at it would be a bad idea.

After watching this, I couldn't help but thinking what I realize is probably a moronic thought: I want to be chased out of somewhere by a police chopper (as long as they don't actually catch me)! I'm surprised they spent the money to roll out a chopper, but didn't send a black & white to wait for you at the bottom of the road. It makes me wonder if they were actively looking for you, or were just flying by (or were on patrol) and happened to see you by chance, then followed you from there.
Anyways, nice video!

Maybe it was just perfect timing. As soon as I set foot above ground, the helicopter rose up out of nowhere. I was sweating big time not knowing if they were waiting for me at the bottom of the mountain. But I was lucky, no black and whites.

If not on an active call to help ground units, they will 'patrol' areas that ground units usually don't, and just like the ground guys assigned to a beat, over
time you get to know what places to pay extra attention to when you go by them.
But these days it's not tough to have a little solar-powered sensor somewhere that sends an SMS message (& possibly photo/video burst) to LE dispatch via PCS phone when the sensor is triggered.
