After a trip to the archives and a few conversations with a graduate student of the college that "maintains" the property, I was able to gather a collection of historical photos from the place. Once owned by one of the wealthiest men in Atlanta, it now sits boarded up, neglected, and heavily alarmed. Very. Heavily. Alarmed. 1. The Guest Bedroom
2.
3. The solarium
4. The solarium when the mansion housed a drug and alcohol rehab program. Notice the deteriorating ceiling.
5. Some kind of reception. Possibly one of the daughters weddings. The pool house in the background was demolished. You can see the top of the still-standing fountain directly above the bass players head.
6. My favorite photo of the bunch. The pool was filled in the 60's and was paved over when they built the mental institution next door. There were two pools on the property, the large one in front of the house was open to the public, and this small pool behind was for the owner's private use. Greenhouses are still standing, though shattered, battered and broken.
7. People eating by the front of the mansion. Could be the owners, i'm not sure.
8. The grand staircase. As DB said, it is quite cluttered.
9. The ballroom. For those who have been inside, this occupied the entire 3rd floor. The floor was divided up into several rooms when the rehab place took over.
10. Master bedroom
11. The super epic legendary music room
12. Another angle
13. Another bedroom
14. Couldn't determine what room this was. First guess was dining room but the dining room was bigger.
15. This room does not line up with any of the floor plans. 10 points to anyone who can figure out which room this is, I sure as hell cant.
16. Another shot of the music room.
Thats all I could get my hands on. Im sure there's more, it's just a matter of looking.
Heres some comparison shots. The rehab clinic put in dropped ceilings, erected smaller rooms in many of the larger rooms, and brought the place up to spec for non-residential use; fire alarms, sprinkler system, fluorescent lighting ect.

It really is an awesome place, and it's a shame that its fallen into such disrepair. Hope to see it restored one day. Until next time -- Turtl

Very cool set! Loved seeing the historical pics; it looked like a hoppin' place.
The Durango '95 purred away a real horrowshow - a nice, warm vibraty feeling all through your guttiwuts. And soon it was trees and dark, my brothers, with real country dark. | |
