I have a Cobra CB radio in my car, and use it frequently. The main things I have learned in owning different CB radios is to keep the squelch down to receive signals further away. As long as you don't mind the noise. But you can keep the volume low as well. Also make sure you get a compatible antenna. -Octane

do you pick up anything in the GTA/York region. I had a CB for over year and never picked up anything on it.

Check your connection then CB is VERY booming in the GTA. Take a listen on Channel 19 pretty much anytime of the day and it's full of activity. -Ex

yea thats if your near a highway.. otherwise the longest range i have been able to receive was like 4 or 5 miles. but thats mobile to mobile. i am sure if you had a base station you would pick up much more. UHF Radios work alot better car to car... I remember I was able to talk to someone simplex on my UHF from the DVP and Lawerance to Yonge and Sheppard, as clear as day.

Definitely. A friend of mine up in Barrie had a real nice UHF radio in his car. He was able to pick up another friend of his that was just leaving Angus (16km/15mins out) as he was just leaving Barrie to go there. As for picking up stuff in Toronto on the CB, yes, with the squelch set low, I can hear lots, but there's so much traffic sometimes, it's hard to discern all of it. :p -Octane
