I'd imagine most action films use abandoned buildings for the fight scenes, race scenes, explosive scenes, and I'm curious what are some big name ones you know about? I only really know about the old Dixie Mall being used in Blues Brothers and a hospital they blew up for The Dark Knight.

This building was used in a movie. I have a picture of the mirror that was used in a scene. The movie is Law Abiding Citizen. That doesn't give anything away either. It's not listed in the filming locations.

Two of the massive buildings at the now demolished NGTE Pyestock site in the south of the UK were used in the 2005 film Sahara and modified to suit. I took these rubbish photos way back in 2010.
The pipe from the end of the test cell was removed and a camera track/walkway built, there were also camera tracks all around the edge of the cell. You can see another at the front of the photo.
A second test cell had camera tracks/walkways installed on it and a set of sliding sci-fi-esque doors added to one end made of flimsy wood
A crap photo I know but after the filming was finished large parts of the set were destroyed and dumped in a corner of one of the buildings

There's an abandoned stretch of turnpike they used in the movie "the road" within a few hours of Philly. Also there's a slaughterhouse quite close to me they filmed the movie "bereavement" (it's on netflix).

The first one that comes to my mind is Hashima Island, appearing in "Skyfall".
And even though I never saw the movie, I know a couple of locations from "Dirty Harry" in SF that are now abandoned and quite fun to explore

I'm not fully aware of places used in movies, but I do know the crew of The Walking Dead likes shooting in abandoned spots around GA.

That's because the whole story takes place in, and is filmed in, Georgia. LOL

So much love for the Walking Dead. We have found and photographed many of the locations it was shooting in. The Query from the first episodes, the Hospital, etc. Terminus was a well known location long before they were filming there. Some of the ATL crew even got in and found the left over body parts after shooting. Georgia is now a hot bed for the filming industry because of so many tax breaks, every day I see people blocking off streets for filming. I'll have to see if I can pull up some of the Walking Dead location shots to throw out.

It was based on Hashima, but from what I hear the movie was filmed entirely at a studio recreation.
Anyway, my contribution. If you ever saw the Korean movie The Host, there is one sequence filmed in an underground river in Seoul. In the movie the main characters go underground to find a monster that abducted the daughter of the family, and they wander through an area I've been many times.
I think this is conceptual art, not from the actual movie.
Decent horror/sci-fi movie that puts the Korean psyche on trial but may be a little less comprehensible to people who don't know about it. I'd love to get a mobile projector down there to have a screening on location.

I'm aware that it takes place in GA, I'm a fan! I've only been to one location that I know they've definitely filmed in, but it was an awesome place nonetheless.

...and it's gone, now. They actually blew up a newer, 80s-built office building on the property that was connected to the factory via bridge.

The Netherine mental hospital was used for a film, The Asylum I think.
The then closed, now demolished, Hacienda Nightclub was used as itself in 24 Hour Party People.

Ah, well i didn't know whether or not they finished demo yet. Unfortunately, i never got to check it out. Brach's!
Damen Silos were partially blown up for Transformers 4. I wonder if it's still worth checking out?

Yes, they're still doable; less than a week after Bay and friends left it was getting graffed-up.
