Hello All! I am new to this site so I hope I'm not breaking protocol or posting something stupid--if so please forgive me I am from Metro Detroit in Michigan, US and have noticed that we have become a sort of mecca for urbex folks and with good reason. We have lots and lots of beautiful abandoned places here just waiting for a good explore However, as a resident and avid explorer I would caution folks who would like to visit the more blighted residential areas for abandoned house explores. Detroit is one of the coolest, nicest, friendliest places in the world BUT we have some serious problems with crime. Please use caution when exploring off the beaten path. My neighbor is a restorer/house flipper in the more distressed areas and he feels he has to carry a gun just to protect himself and his employees. He routinely comes across dead bodies, junkies, aggressive metal thieves, would-be muggers etc. That said, as a urbexer and native Detroiter, packs of wild dogs couldn't drag me away from this area--oh, by the way, there actually are packs of wild dogs........

Thank-you for posting this! I dream of going to Detroit to explore, but at the same time, because of it's reputation I am also a bit nervous. Maybe if I ever make it there one day, (I'm hoping to next summer) you could show me around. If you'd be willing of course.

I've seen Fisher body, Packard and the train station. Are there any other abandoned buildings in Detroit?

That's a very good question! lol I've just gone ahead and un-pinned it. I'm guessing someone just bumped the button by accident.

When I say I'm 'clean and sober', it means I've showered and I'm headed to the liquor store. | |

I am also from Detroit, been out of the buildings for about an year and half, Really bad real life. Wife battling cancer and then losing the fight. but starting to hit up places again. Have a new group of photographers with me to show them the ropes. It will be fun seeing it all new thru there eyes. I have been photographing the buildings for about 7-8 years. My prefers day to hit the Detroit area is early Sunday mornings. I also use to work Saturdays. I have found that the streets are all but abandoned.
