Spotlight Buddha and I teamed up (along with another) for an interesting time - one night, two sites (stay tuned for the derelicts of St. James town). This is how we ended the night: we climbed every step of this thing. All 50 floors of a(n admittedly short) skyscraper, still under construction. It took us about 1.5 hours to get up - in large part because we took time to go and explore the building while we were at it. For the most part, the lower floors are uninteresting: condo apartments being put together, but I'd love to go back and do some more photo work at those windows. After floor 30 though, the place becomes a playground: wide-open spaces, the grit and grime of unfinished structures. The views from the roof were pretty good, unspoiled by other skyscrapers getting in the way. It's a great place to take pics of the city, if you've got better camera gear than I have. ** never use the gallery builder. Ever. 1: Elevator shaft, seen from B1 2: Somewhere between floors 10 and 20, a decent look out the windows. 3: I like fresh copper, 'nuff said. 4: Looking down from an open balcony, somewhere around the 30th floor 5: View south 6: view north 7: We should've turned back at that point, but didn't. 8: Floor 48 is the last one that was marked. 9: One of us perched with the city spread below (somewhere around floor 40 I think) 10: The base of the crane from across the roof 11: View of the city lights from across the roof 12: The crane! 13: This is how skyscrapers are built - that thing is holding tonnes of concrete. 14: this way out.

Hooray for being a noobster - the gallery uploader is taking awhile, it's only accepting one photo at a time.

Oh my god. After some near-despair and mild panic, I remembered how HTML works.

No shots from the crane???
Zen and the art of infiltration... http://www.flikr.com/photos/zenslens Zen is an uber explorer, a demi god of craning and purveyor of the finer things in life. |

Honestly I was sorely tempted - if it had been just spot and I it might've been different. Alas my lover is afraid of heights and seeing me go up that crane would have driven him mad. (a sorry excuse - the truth is that my flesh-meat is soft and weak. I couldn't do it at that hour, after the stairs and a party the night before.) But seriously zen, I'll rise to the challenge and re-visit the site if you want to climb the crane together!

Great stuff ! The title of this thread reminded me of something you may have well intended: https://www.youtub...atch?v=ryRo35P_ACc It even kinda 'feels like the view' when you're on top : ) J->

Your photos are way too good for the stupid "pop up" feature. Thanks Rob for fixing it.

Sorry guys, I'm still new here (and, apparently, the whole gallery uploader thing isn't that great). I'm not a photographer, but it's easy to take decent photos with opportunity like that. But I'm serious about the crane - anyone want to tackle that this week? **edit** I understand & accept the rule against posting locations, and I don't plan to advertise this one openly. Normally I wouldn't be so 'hell-yeah!' about sharing with others but this is a construction site. It's going to be closed up and open for business fairly soon, so I don't feel too inhibited about revisiting it with another crew. Just thought I'd clarify that - in my mind, things going up are in a different category than things falling down.
