I have done some exploration with a friend but I'm dying to get out and do some more exploring! Personally I do not feel comfortable doing it solo, so what would you say is the best way to meet others in my area? How have you met other urban explorers?
| |
Where are you located? Tell us the area and this is a good start. But this is a hobby based on trust, so show us some of you pictures from previous explores and get yourself out there on this site and you are bound to find some local explorers, or at least explorers willing to meet up.

Or if you are hawt that will help as 95% of explorers seem to be male.

I am located in Southern Ontario about an hour outside of Toronto. I really only have one place that I have explored on multiple occasions and have already posted pictures in the Ontario forum.

Then you are definitely doing the right thing. Try to stay active on the site and you will start to gain some trust as long as you aren't shady, haha. Start taking some pictures or posting in your local sections to try to meet up with some people up your way. It's tough when you are starting out on the site and only have a handful of posts as opposed to someone who contributes a decent amount and is more "known" on the site. In the end, you are meeting up with strangers and breaking into abandoned buildings, haha. Just keep at it!

I've met some great folks here, hanging out in the Forums under whatever Region you are from.

Your pretty much where you need to be here on UEr to meet new people, another way is using google, google up the names of some of the places you've already been or are trying to get into and see if you come across blogs, facebook groups , or personal websites of people that have been to the same places, and contact them, ive always found other people in that manor and most are pretty friendly and helpful

There is a monthly meetup in TO, but I'm not sure how active they are these days. I haven't gone in years. There are tons of people in the Toronto and Hamilton areas, so it shouldn't be too hard to find people

You should use your energy in helping the original poster in her question on how to find new people , rather than correct my grammar and show her that UER does have its share of useless jerks

You all are extremely helpful. thanks for the tips

I think we're in the same city and I find that the hardest part these days is actually FINDING something to explore, not finding people to explore WITH. With that said though if you have any ideas, I'd be down to meet up and check it out with you some time. I haven't even been exploring in years and I kinda wanna get back into it anyway.

The only additional advice I can offer is to keep an eye on Flickr and start conversations with people visiting locations you could get to.
| |
a) Flickr b) Facebook Select one of the above and Google it along with "urban explorer photographer Ontario" and dive into one of those groups. There are tons of people from your area and surrounding cities such as Burlington and Guelph. I surmise you're female, in which case definitely bring a friend with you.

I think it's safe to say that I'm likely not a "useless jerk", but if I am...not only is that news to me, it's interesting. Instead, after CatandTie covered the basics of exactly what I was going to say, I thought you had a sense if humor for your own mistakes. Guess not. I'll remember that, next time. Sorry about your paper thin skin.

Beautiful Insanity, since you're looking for new friends or at least friendly acquaintances, flesh out your personal info a little bit. You know, location, gender, signature, avatar, etc. Answer a couple of the questions too like do you drive, email address, birthday, etc. A little bit of trust goes a long way. If any of your photos fit into the specialized sections in the Photography thread like pianos, lonely chairs, smokestacks, etc., post 'em up! The more you drift across the forum, the better folks will get to know you. If you're fairly new, check out the rest of the rookie forum to learn the ropes. Ask questions, share your adventures and opinions. The more you post and the more you insert yourself into the community, the more folks will begin to trust you and talk with you. You can get great advice, pointers, assistance with certain aspects of the explore, all kinds of stuff. Your future is what you make it. Open up and say hello. I'm sure you'll get off to a great start and before long, you'll be a pro and never look back. Check out the FAQ's, introduce yourself and join the club.

I'll second this notion, there is a monthly meetup here, but the last one I went to had three people, myself included. I'm not saying that to discourage you however. Some people have expressed that Toronto has had it's hay-day of Urb-Ex, but I'd like to think that there are still quite a few places left unseen/unexplored and many people in the city that want to/have explored them willing to venture out. Maybe I'm naive/ignorant of the whole U.E scene here in Toronto, but I've got quite a few places I'd like to explore and I won't give up until I've done at least half of what's on my list. (Preferably not alone, I'm finding I'm risking my luck more and more often going solo. XD) Best of luck, keep at it, and safe travels in the meantime!

ham still has a lot of good to epic drain stuff... but where did all ham explorers go? Find a low risk location, and invite couple people to start networking... and yeah, post pictures to create more interest.

I'm near you, and I've already pm'd. It's my first day hitting the forums and I'm finding private messages to be a useful way to connect. I'll update as things change, I suppose.
