Maybe we have different views on death.

Respect is for the living... the respectable living, anyway. And once someone is dead, their memory and accomplishments are still deserving of that respect, but the body is just a body.

Would you deface the statue of a not evil person? After all, it is just a statue.

Look, i think i should be a bit more clear on the fact that i wasn't entirely serious about what i said there (and had assumed it wouldn't be taken as such) because it seems like people are getting upset.

The last part anyway. If i did discover a body, I'd absolutely take pictures. Probably not show them to anyone, but I document everything. I have folders full of pictures of just about everything I've seen while exploring, but only a small fraction of them actually make it outside of my own computer. Most of them are pretty uninteresting, but i enjoy having them. I probably wouldn't report it though unless it was pretty obviously a dumped body, then an anonymous tip at best.

And yes, i do collect bones, but I wouldn't take the skull off of a body i found exploring for... various reasons.

First of all, i would never take *anything* from somewhere i'm exploring. I know this hobby isn't one that comes with rules really, but that's one I've made for myself and follow strictly. Just like hiking: Take only pictures, leave only footprints.

In addition, the bone quality in an environment like that would be terrible. Anything that decomposed slowly and naturally in a cool indoor environment would be undesirable. Also i'm not entirely sure i'm comfortable with the idea of having human bones in my collection, but if i did want any i'd be purchasing them professionally cleaned and treated, not grabbing ones i find.

But the main reason... i just plain don't want to touch a dead body.

That said, i don't really think a body is something that deserves such reverence, the person that it once was is gone and it's pretty much just a discarded thing. I respect the memory of who the dead were, but not the bodies.

Can we try not to derail this generally interesting thread? It's ok, no one here meant any harm, let's all cool it.

A couple years ago a friend and I were exploring a factory and came across what we thought was a sleeping homeless man. I only saw him for a split second and left the area because I didn't want to disturb him. Fast forward to a couple weeks later, that same friend was at the factory with other friends and noticed the "sleeping" homeless man was in the same exact spot, and the tips of his fingers were just exposed bone. They left the building and called the police anonymously.

That's honestly a great question to ask because the last two places I explored by myself I had that thought come across my mind. In truth, I would want to call the cops because I would want the person to be examined to rule out murder, natural death, accident, suicide, etc. so that if it were murder the perpetrators would be caught.

On the other hand, I would be asked why I was on the location, possibly getting me into trouble, and then it would fuck the location over for other Urbexs to explore it in the future.

That's a tough one. Thoughts? By the way, I know we are grown-ups here, but am I allowed to curse the way I do? I mean if I not using it in a sense to be rude to someone, am I still respecting the forum rules? I just wanted to ask for clarification. Thanks!

Holy guacamole I want to visit those places now, especially the first one! Shitty thing I live in Hawaii, I start my semester soon, and I'm a basic member right now. All in due time.

It isn't the best with the way things are so expensive AND there isn't much to explore from what I can see as a basic, but I'm still researching the best I can and waiting till I can move off island to the mainland again.

On the surface this appears to be normal fuckin' UER banter.
However Ed I find the use of that emoticon highly offensive.

A dead emoticon.
