Lately I've been on a kick finding these old homes that are so often overlooked as we search for the industrial relics, hospitals, schools, mills and all those other goodies that we get posted so often. Most of the time these old houses are just scrapped and stripped bare, devoid of all character, with little to no trace of the lives of the people who lived there. But sometimes, just sometimes you can come across one that still has the names of the children who lived there just after WWII written in cement in the basement or a left over copy of Life Today from 1949 that has articles warning of the dangers of "The Pagan Marriage" or the "Marahunna Menace". I wonder what they would think now that so many states are moving to legalize this so called menace? The remains of the woodworking shop in the basement explain why almost every wall in this home had cabinets, compartments, cupboards, closets or bookshelves tucked into every nook and cranny. The hand drawn pictures of the four seasons on the garage door and the last remains of the shattered stained glass window will all be erased now that this lot has been zoned for redevelopment in a pricy neighborhood. So many traces of the people who lived remain if only you look.

mmmm. mandias....... | |
The wooden wall in the attic is sweet, random in nature... But sweet. I bet this was a pretty sweet little spot back in the day. And great sentiment with the write up. And no shots of the woodshop?

I like the lighting in the picture of the attic and the remnants of the stained glass window.

Excellent shots dude! I love old homes, especially when there's so much left in the place. That backyard and pool area is sick!

That staircase looks really cool.. And holy smokes!! That backyard is to die for!

Thanks man, I'm glad you found it as interesting as I did. Its the stuff like this that I think adds a deeper dimension to the photo sets we normally get here. Just a peek into someone's life.

Thanks, it was definitely a nice house back in the day. That pool still has a few more shots I need to go back for.

Sadly no woodshop photos I was running out of time. Most of the tools were gone anyway.

You know the lighting in the attic and all the different shades of wood caught my eye too. Glad I caught it for you. I think that I'm going to try doing a window like that at home now in my kids room. After looking at how it was done it seems very simple.

Old houses rock, good to see you pop back in again. Are you still active?

Thanks Skye, there was so much work put into building that staircase it was fun to see. In fact the whole house had so much woodwork like that it was hard to decide how to shoot it.

Ha! Its all inside the perimeter, you would be surprised. Look in those nooks and crannies I keep talking about. I don't set foot out in the woods, I've seen Deliverance. Man, you gotta come out with us again.

Well I'll be damned. Then excellent job cropping and framing your shots. This looks isolated as hell, but I can see where it's still part of a neighborhood.
