Sand: I've always found your avatar photo interesting. I just gave you your first UER "Like" for that reason.

LOL! Thanks for the like. That's just a half-abandoned lock factory, I believe, and a train yard in between. The "like" thing wasn't here when I stopped hanging out on here, first just taking a break because of some members being snobby, then I found out I had heart failure. Looking back at some explores where I told my partner to "go on without me!" and felt like I was going to die, heart beating out of my chest just from some hiking uphill....I wasn't out of shape....I even took fitness courses at the community college, and my heart rate never improved, and they were concerned. I rocked the strength training, but had to find out that way, that I was screwed by 'Mother Nature'. On top of that I have had even crappier health issues...so the urban exploring forum browsing was too much of a tease to look at, but now I am feeling better and thinking about getting back into it. Coming back here, I am amazed to see so many Bay Area explorers! It's really amazing...a bit sad, though, because some of the really cool places I would normally bring people new to the scene have been demolished in the last few years. As far as the legality of police taking memory cards - if they don't arrest you/take you into custody, they can't just take your memory card, and they can't erase your files, either. Of course, they can either lie and do what they want, or believe they have the right to do things they legally can't, and will do it. Whenever we had Bay Area Meetups, we would sometimes know that we were probably going to run into cops at some point, depending on the place. When that happened, I would erase the images myself before leaving a building, or if police actually were approaching a building, I would erase the pictures and get out ASAP. At home, it's easy enough to restore the erased pictures.

Explored Drawbridge for the first time the other day with a friend. No problems arose except for muddy legs from a couple missteps!

My feet were soaked and caked in mud afterward. I took a night trip. Maybe I'll take a day trip sometime this summer when it's more dry

As a lot of you know, the city's intention was to let this place sink back into the marsh. After Cali's serious wet season recently, most of these buildings are either collapsed or halfway underwater, making it hard to currently get to/enter a lot of the structures. 1.

If you were going for "desolate" as a theme for your pics you captured it perfectly.

I'm actually curious...any of you old timers visit this spot 10-20 years ago? How different was it from now? Was it a lot cooler back then? Tell us about drawbridge 10-20 years ago! Haha

Thanks ash!!!! It's a secondhand Pentax P30T, with the basic 50mm that it came with. It's such a simple camera, but I love what it can do.

Few more buildings & all were a bit taller.
The question is not when are we gonna stop, It's who's gonna stop us? | |
Posted by FastEddy Map it out from the McDs in Fremont. We rode bikes there. You just have to cross one train bridge to the north end. Download the ACE and Amtrak schedules before you go.
|
You don't have to have the train schedules before you go. The area is open enough for you to see a couple miles down the tracks. The bridge is the only area you want to worry about, the rest of the track you can easily step off the side on to avoid being hit by a train. The bridge takes less than a minute to cross on bike. If a train were to come whilst on bridge, you'd have to bail into the water.. That being said, always keep your eyes open.

Man I cannot get enough of this place, this is like my 5th visit. Not much has changed, the heavy rainfall from this season did screw with some of the supports of some of the buildings, but everything looks the same. I recall Mercury News saying this place would all be gone by 2025, I doubt it. Hope this place stays up longer, lots of history.
Goodnight
