okay so im in the uk right and my hotel has two roof access points. one with a stair and a locked door, the other with a ladder and a roof hatch. the roof hatch doesnt require a key. it has a square metal rod sticking out of the lock mechanism and im assuming this means its intended to be opened with a socket wrench or something like that. any idea on how else to open it? i have at my disposal a metal corkscrew/bottle opener (the kind that has a curved frame and the dull useless knife), a slip joint knife (would rather not have to damage this, is a souvenir i bought in italy) and other regular travel items. im leaving tomorrow at like 630 am (its 10pm right now) and would love to get on the roof for some photos. i tried just twisting it with my fingers but obviously that didnt work. not that i actually thought it would. edit: just looked up firefighter key. looks like that is the tool intended to open.) second edit: nevermind. figured it out pretty sure there was a camera up there tho (weird right?) but it had a dark housing and was mounted on the wall so i stayed up there for maybe a minute tops shooting as many angles as possible then went back down. gonna process then post pics in a different thread.

Stab the slip joint knife into one leg, the corkscrew into your other leg, and run off the edge of the roof screaming. And then cross-link your rooftop pics to this thread.

I know this is an old thread, but I thought it would be better to bump an old thread instead of creating a new one. Has anyone ever encountered/heard of roof hatches being alarmed? The mechanical room in the building I work in is currently unlocked and there is a hatch going onto the roof. I would love to go check out the roof, but it would really be better if I was not caught there.

Yes, some do have alarms.. They may not be visible from the inside because the alarm is on the hinge or outer lip. Or you might be lucky enough to find one that doesn't actually have an alarm... Only one way to find out
