Reddit.

I followed a subreddit for a long time that featured "abandoned porn" (/r/abandonedporn). It's essentially people posting images of abandoned things, though after a while it's mostly the same big places over and over. One day someone mentions another subreddit, /r/urbanexploration. I started following that and eventually someone mentioned UER or I started googling the term urban exploration. I'm not sure at that point. Maybe a bit of both before becoming I joined.

I know some of you are familiar with the subs.

Either some explorers at an undisclosed location told me about UER, or I found it from one of the local sites (Action Squad, TCUR, Urban Wanderers, etc).

I found UER last fall one night when some friends and myself were attempting to find "spooky" places to explore (due to our usual haunts not really holding any interest any longer). But a google search lead us to the Denton, Tx page on here.

I was looking for info on this place http://www.uer.ca/...=1&threadid=110322 because I used to hang out up there as a kid. I stumbled across this site and found out "hey im not the only one!" Been sniffing around here ever since. Still haven't posted anything mostly because I suck with a camera. Some day full membership will be mine!

Two summers ago when we got super into driving around looking for Weird Shit In The Countryside, I was researching Weird Shit In The Countryside to go look at. Lit up active factories at night and abandoned jank stuff in the day (we were totally taking reference photos for the apocalyptic comic AND my car was the only place I owned with air conditioning!) There was a thread about a medical facility in the central part of the state (I haven't been inside; I think they may finally be starting to renovate it, though) that I stumbled upon when I was specifically looking for that thing (from a non-UER rumor about it). What really sold me on the forum and prompted me to register (despite immediately forgetting that it existed for six months >.> shh my attention span is awesome) was a lengthy thread on here about trespassing laws by state. <3

I think I found this place years ago through the Wraiths website, they're an (i'm guessing) defunct group of urban explorers from Vancouver who maintained an awesome website during their prime.

Then I forgot about UER for a bunch of years...

and this evening I was chatting with a member of HauntedBC who reminded me of UER, so I checked to see if I was registered, and lo and behold I was. So I've found this place twice, neither time with Google.

BTW, if the point is to not be traceable on Google, you can request to have their robots not scan this site, I'm pretty sure. I did that once for a website I used to run, but how I accomplished it now escapes me.

Going......
Going...
Gone.

Through Yahoo!
Not Google ha-ha

I was thinking, guys...
Would it be a great idea to leave behind some sort of signature about UER in abandonments to others explorers?
Something like
"So are you an Urban Explorer also? Go to WWW.UER.CA and share your photos and stories with us there. Please disregard this letter if you're the property owner or a cop."

Hopefully the cops and property owners would actually ignore the letter. But I think that could be a really cool idea also.

Worst idea in the entire history of ideas.

Even as a joke.
