I don't much shoot people, and this isn't really exploring (though for me it was, since I don't get to do the "nice" thing often). I brought along my nifty fifty (mm), so I didn't have a lot of room to play with, but we had fun, and these girls ate up the camera, so I thought I would give it a try. Critique is welcome, as there is always room to improve. 1.

The one thing that jumps out at me most is never, never, never crop at a joint. I also think the girl in the chair, her body would be better on the third line (farthest to the right), instead of centered. That's my own personal preference as far as the rule of thirds goes, anyway.

Thanks! A lot of the silly cropping was trying to make the most of the 50mm, but I definitely agree. I actually didn't edit these at all, because I wanted to show just in camera.

I think that's important, too. If you can perfect before Photoshop, you're a lot better off in the long run. The joint thing is always a big thing with me, because if you look at #3, she looks like an amputee. Or the hand that's coming out of nowhere, too. I will say these are LOT better than quite a few people that I know who charge other's for portraits. :/ Have you checked out: You Are Not a Photographer (http://youarenotaphotographer.com/) ? ...holy moly. Hahaha. You're a professional compared to the people they find. :p

I actually never use photoshop or lightroom, I dont have the option. But holy shit yeah. I claim to be the amateur I am. Shooting people (with cameras) is something I dont really even enjoy, but I figure if I am going to do it...I might as well do it as best I can.

Perfect. Even better. I think some people take photos just to see how they can 'enhance' them in PS or LR. :/
