Never heard of it. .......................... Seriously though, JEALOUS! Please let us know how one goes about doing this. I don't particularly see myself traveling to the other side of the globe to do it. But hey, you never know!
Architecture, nature, alcohol.... Space travel, Rock n Roll. |

This is incredible! Great work! I'll be in Ukraine next year and I'm planning on visiting this site. As such, I'd also love to hear about the company and gear you used as well as any precautions you took.

did you go check out duga-3 when you were there?
Nothing would ever change; nothing new could ever be expected. It had to end, and it did. Now in the dark world where I dwell, ugly things, and surprising things, and sometimes little wondrous things, spill out in me constantly, and I can count on nothing |

Hoe lee crap! The mother of all explores. That is awesome. I'm with Photloose, it's on my bucket list too. I've been all through the building with the pool and over to the ferris wheel, in Call of Duty 4.

Sadly I don't think that counts as exploring... My husband asked me why I wanted to go there when I could do it from the safety of the x-box... *shakes head* just not the same ;)

Hey, We went through this group: UkrainianWeb.com I wouldn't recommend the tour group, they didn't really tell us much about the site or the history. There wasn't any leeway in choosing which buildings we could go into. You can't go into most of them now anyway because they are starting to cave in. I would recommend doing the 2 day trip. I did the 1 day trip and could have spent weeks there if it was safe.

Hey, It's really easy to do. They day have tours from Kiev. You definitely can't sneak in, there are 3 security checkpoints you have to pass in order to get in. Also, you can only spend a few hours there, the radiation is till pretty high and some of the areas are pretty dangerous to go to, so you need a guide to go with you.

Hey, There weren't too many precautions. The tour told us we needed to throw our shoes away after, which I did. I thought I would bring some sweat pants and a cheap shirt and threw those away as well. You need cover as much of your body as you can, so wear long sleeves and a hat.

This is very helpful information! Thank you! Also, where did you get your geiger counter? One of the two pictured looks jimmy-rigged, haha. Those things are usually expensive but obviously necessary, so I'd like to go the semi-cheap route.

You don't need to buy one, just make sure the tour guide has one. One of the guys on my tour bought one online from Japan for $150 but we didn't really need to have two of them.
