Hey all, I've heard some good things about Pelican cases, and was wondering if anyone on here has had any experience with them. I'm gonna be moving pretty soon, to a place with a lot more drains and the like, so I'm especially interested in finding something that is fairly watertight. Any sort of insight is appreciated. Thanks!

Pelican cases seem to work great and are waterproof from what I've seen of them. The only problem I have with them is their price and sizing. To get one with enough space to hold the things I wanted to carry and with the interior options that I wanted was $300+. I went the cheaper route and grabbed a couple military ammo cans. A 50 cal. box for when I didn't need as much space and 40mm grenade launcher can for when I need more space. I cut up some foam to fit around the camera gear I want to carry and added it to the box it works great. Just make sure that the rubber seal around the lid is good and there isn't any rust around the seams of the box as that is what keeps the water out. I'd also recommend some desiccant packs if you are working in wet places a lot you don't want mold, fungus, or humidity growing/building up in your expensive camera gear. For the record I know that the 40mm boxes will float with 10-15 lbs in them and they can be completely submerged for 30+ mins without leaking assuming the lid seal is good. I've taken mine down the river with a 7D and 300 2.8 lens inside $3000+ in gear so I trust them. The best way to check them for leaks is to fill them with something heavy and non valuable and sink them in your bath tub 30 mins you'll find any weak spots in the seals/seams. One of my 50 cal. can need a slight dab of silicone sealer to stay perfectly dry.
