The Royal Thai Railway
So I had the pleasure of escaping the Canadian cold this winter...at least most of it. I spend a couple months in Asia, A couple weeks of which where in Thailand. Obviously I spent what ever free time I had scoping out and attempting to ride freight trains.
As I've stated before my SLR took a ride in the Atlantic Ocean and I haven't been able to buy a new camera since, so here are a few screen shots from my latest project... just so we can get some international trains on here.
The first two shots are of me rolling into Bangkok after a nice little paid ride from the Cambodian boarder. The ride took around five and a half hours, the train stopped a lot, but was quite scenic. Believe it or not the whole ride cost me $1.60
Up next I found myself touring the city for yards and after a bit of a walk down the tracks following an old unit I found a nice little yard tucked away downtown
On the way I managed to run into a local who's just as excited about trains as me
In typical downtown train yard fashion, this one was nestled between highway overpasses
Stumbling over all the garbage and empty energy drink bottles I managed to come across a tied up and dead dog. Still stunk and didnt look like it met a very good end.
Bangsue Junction – Phahonyothin Yard
Thailands largest yard which was located in Northern Bangkok. The place was massive and while doing research earlier and looking over google maps I was really expecting a bustling yard. Got there and it felt more like a graveyard than anything.
The yard tower, which despite my being there for a couple hours never seemed to mind much.
A few empty cabooses sitting on the edge of the yard. Pretty cool to tour but after watching Thai freight train vids on youtube, I saw most trains with these which would have made my life as a train hopper much more difficult. India had every train with a manned caboose, these were much cooler. Complete with asian style bathroom, probably a real pleasure to ride.
I was surprised to see people painted freights here. There was a lot of graffiti in the city, but was really nice seeing people benched here too.
And of course sweating my ass off in a Thai Boxcar...fuck are those hot!
Working on the vid from the trip so hopefully Ill have something watchable sooner than later.

Awesome photos. Always wondered what it would be liked to ride freight somewhere like that. Must be a totally different experience.
