Never ask me this question..ever.
< on 7/16/2012 8:21 PM >
Posted on Forum: UER ForumQuote
Someone asked me for a digital copy of a "book" the other day. The answer is no...and always will be. Unless I KNOW you, and have personally known you for a while, don't even bother to ask. That is all.

I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me, and it'll happen to you, too!

Definitely familiar with that question. Nobody wants to do old fashioned footwork and note making any more, they just want it the easy way.

Every time I try to use it I find inaccuracies anyway.

It gets outdated rather quickly as situations can change pretty often but its still a nice tool to have.

I'm sure there are hilariously wrong copies for these people. "candy train at 2pm."

Why would I ask you for a copy? They give them out for free down here at Yonge and Dundas!

Oh wait, not that book.

I was curious a few years ago and had no problem finding a digital copy online.

I never tried to get it online since all the copies I saw were outdated and public
The way I see it, if I can be got easily by anybody the bulls and cops are reading it to. Not to mention things change as year go by.

I decided to hell with it, I'm going to try to hop and hitch for a month or so this coming summer and see for myself. More of an adventure that way anyway.

It's really not that necessary anyway. Taking risks and finding things out yourself is part of the adventure. As I said before, you can always make your own notes or you might run into other friendly hoppers who are usually more than willing to share some tidbits.

I would feel better if my first trip were with somebody who had some experience, just to get the basic feel for it. From there I could go my own.

Well, time to order some RR Maps.

Dude loved you in THE WIRE...however if your getting on unfamiliar trains, consider getting timetables over maps. Maps will show you where train lines are but they wont tell you where the train your on is going, timetables will.

Just a thought

Why thank you, I did what I could to fight crime in the western.

Anyway, yeah, I figured on trying to get my hands on timetables if I could.

Have any of you guys here hopped freight long distances before? Cross country sort of stuff?

Personally I've only done from Ontario to Halifax, Nova Scotia. Never done it South of the border as I only recently got my passport. I do know quite a few people who have crossed between both oceans and North and South however. Hoping to get out to Western Canada next, myself.

I've never had one. People seem to think I do. I know where they go, and what goes where by years of figuring it out.
