Fashion show photography

I've been put on the press list for a local alternative fashion show that's going to take place next month. The lighting and runway situation has been described as such to me: "The runway will be 45ft and the lighting is going to be pretty dim for the most part. We haven't figured out the lighting situation exactly yet but I have visuals that will be projected from the ceiling and reflect off a white runway."

My 50mm f/1.8 and 18-70mm f/3.5-4.5 aren't going to cut it, and I'm not sure if my D300 will work, or if I need to go up to a full frame D700, which is an expense that'd make my finances a bit tighter than I'd like. That said, which lenses should I get? I'm not sure if I should go with a zoom or a couple of primes.

For this sort of thing, you'd probably want one of the numerous 70/80-200mm f/2.8 tele zooms. You could probably find an old Nikon 80-200mm f/2.8 push-pull (slow AF, but optically identical to the AF-D) for around $400-500 if you looked hard enough.

^ This all the way! Just rent the lenses/body you need for the shoot. It also gives you a chance to play with combo's that you can't justify buying outright for just a one time use.

As for the shoot itself I'd be finding out what they allow you to use for lighting and if the ceiling is low enough/reflective enough to bounce off of assuming that you can use flash. If not grab the fastest primes you can and D3s or D4 and just turn up the ISO.

Man... Not even the mods make it to this corner of UER
I feel like I am in ...well... the great plains ;) Posted by willskith Unfortunately, due to overuse of tonemapping, photography was gradually ruined and now stands with halos.
