Posted by /-/ooligan And don't forget, any T-#### building designation indicates it was constructed using Theater design & materials -- a perceived need/life-expectancy to not exceed 10 years (otherwise, a Permanent construction/design would have used brick & concrete), so it lived a lot longer than expected...

Ooooh that's an interesting thing to learn about - makes sense with how some things have and haven't held up in various places

I am so excited to share these photos with you. This is the result of 2 years of exploring Fort Ord. I finally found a pristine latrine, fully functional door, almost all toilet seats intact, light fixture still intact, free of graffiti and vandalism. I will never share its location!! Its all mine. As someone who has spent years (2012 - now) exploring Ord, I congratulate you! Finding anything at Ord without vandalism is, indeed, quite a feat. The only “pristine” areas I had found over the years in Ord were buildings/sections that were only very recently vacated (and these are very rare). I don’t think I’ve ever found something this old, not vandalized to some degree. Not to mention the fact I’ve never come across latrines like this - vandalized or not.

Yesterday I returned to the wooden barracks section on the corner of 2nd and 8th to finish a project I have been working on. I see that they are putting up new fencing and wrapping the big trees along 8th in orange. So yes the buildings will now go thru asbestos remediation and be torn down to make way for a new park. The larger section of barracks has been under remediation for a month now. I think this area will be a business park. I hoped to finish doing 360 shots of the interiors for VR, but I did get most of them.

I saw a lot of wreckage and piles of old demolished barracks last weekend

Any Ord updates? I’m still in denial that I won’t be able to visit this area for the foreseeable future and I still find myself frequently wondering about the status of Fort Ord.

Same here. I keep hoping I'll drive up and it'll be as good as it was in 2001. Someone in this thread mentioned an elevator to a bunker but never replied to me so I figure it must be one of those good ole urban folk tales!

I wanna visit Fort Ord soon, yall got any tips?

Last week I was driving to and from Monterey and saw Ord on the side of the highway. Looked like there was demolition going on
|
|
Crap, are there still any buildings left?

Almost all the WW II wood buildings between 8th and Divarty are either under remediation, in a state of demolition or demolished. About 40 have come down so far. The 8th St side will be a park. I think a business park is going in on the other portion.
