My Intro to Urban Exploration
entry by Concrete Daze

Like many people, I was an explorer before I knew the term. I guess my dad was the first person to take me to old abandoned buildings. Every now and then, we'd hit up an old garbage dump from 80 years ago, or sneak into the old community hall (which, incidentally, my parents purchased for a few hundred dollars in back taxes, but never told anybody until they sold it again). As I grew older, one of my many older brothers would talk about going to some old abandoned building or other, and they would show me pictures. Then, I went to a few ghost towns and filmed some music videos in the ruins of an era long past. There was a lull after that, and I had no plans to explore any more. Until I stumbled upon this site on reddit and my interest was rekindled. Since then I have gone, ironically, to the house I grew up in. It was a joint home and store, with the living quarters in the back. The people we sold it to could not make it a viable business (same reason we sold it), and had stopped paying their mortgage and left. The building was gutted and locked up, and placed on the market. 3 years went by, and still nothing. So today, curiosity got the better of me. I had to see the ol' homestead. I grabbed a flashlight and my crappy camera and attempted to get in. I failed, but I did get some ok pictures of the area. So here's to my UE career, and hopefully I'll have better luck next time!
