Right, so this area is (for the most part) abandoned because the buildings were build on top of a landfill before it settled. Well when it did, it did so unevenly. If I remember correctly, the places were closed because the structural integrity was supposedly compromised by the shifting ground. Anyways, it wasn't to standards.

Now, I went there a few weeks ago to check it out. It was at night and we didn't have any lights. Add to that a faint light in one of the buildings, and I got spooked. The lights were in the building below. I'm not sure if the cars there were the same ones there that night, but this place is obviously in use.

Too bad, 'cause it looks like there's a ton of neat nicknacks to take pictures of.

The main sign I found that this building was in use was the fact that there was electricity going to it. There was a huge fan in the back making an ungodly noise. It might have been on a generator or something, we didn't investigate it too closely. The other sign was that there was a lot of stuff behind the building. Not very old, either. On the right of the top photo looks to be some kind of fishtank to me. On the left, on the table, is a picture. The bottom photo shows it, and you can tell it hasn't been out for a long time.

Then there's some more junk. Like a trash receptacle I'm guessing from a restaurant somewhere. This isn't decaying yet either. There's also a cooler. I didn't look inside.

There were also a ton of trucks, none of them old at all. They were meticulously parked, as though in a parking lot.

Next we went to the building next to the one in use.

It was wide open in the back.

The very first thing I noticed was a corner set up like a living room or something. I'm pretty sure someone's living here.

Children's toys and blanket, undamaged.

And quite new cleaning supplies. Lots of toilet bowl cleaner.

Another cooler.

And a lonely sock.

Ooh, the irony!

And of course, there's the obligatory lonely chair picture.

And a funky couch. I swear I didn't touch it; it was like that when we got there.

I keep saying "we," and he gave me permission to use his picture, so here's my Puppy. His job is protection. The eyepatch is from a totally unrelated incident, though the lack of depth perception really freaked him out on the uneven ground.

Next we hopped over some wet ground (it had been raining) and continued to some more buildings we could see. And to our surprise, found a go cart track. Beyond that was a mini golf course. It must have been one of those places where kids have their birthdays. Any of you familiar with Adventure Landing? Anyways, judging by the soda cans, fast food trash, and monster energy drink cans, the golf course is a teenager hang out. Maybe that's where all the kids who play hooky at the Career Center go, I dunno, but they must have plenty of bug spray; there were tons of skeeters! I thought they were supposed to start dying off when it started getting cold.

The go cart track with an auto shop in the background. There were actually people coming and going at the auto shop. There was also a kid on a motor bike (think BMX) and his dad out there. I swear someone saw us, they must have. We weren't bothered, though. Other than the kid nearly clipping the tail end of my car with his bike.

Somebody lost their goggles.

I should have realized this might be a skeeter breeding ground.

Definitely golf.

There was lots of trash around. Lots of Monster cans, lots of soda cans and arizona iced tea, as well as fast food trash. Oh, and a recent sports magazine of some sort. The golf course is obviously some kind of hangout/crazy orgy place, lol. I don't blame 'em, though; even though there are some places that can be seen from the auto shop, there are plenty of places screened from view by trees and bushes.

It's definitely a cool spot, though we didn't explore every inch of it. One building was "guarded" by two dogs. Well, really only guarded by one, the other looked quite friendly. They were in cages, but if they weren't emaciated someone must be looking after them, and we didn't know if anyone was around to hear the barking. Definitely going back, though only after I get bug spray or it cools down enough to kill those damn skeeters.

"What did you come here for, anyways?"
"Old buildings make me feel sad."
"What's good about sad?" "It's happy for deep people." ~Doctor Who episode Blink
