I've thought that 3D printers are neat since I first heard of them, but this is a use that I hadn't considered.

"Interesting milestone in open-source 3D printing over at Thingiverse: User crank has published a freely-downloadable magazine for the ubiquitous AR-15 rifle. As downloaded, crank’s magazine only holds five rounds, but a person with basic 3D modelling skills could modify it with little difficulty to produce a “high-capacity” magazine. I’m not sure what the current state of law on magazine size limits is, but prior to the sunset of the Federal Assault Weapons Ban (Wikipedia) in 2004, manufacture of an AR-15 magazine with a capacity of more than 10 rounds was an offense."

lolz! and if they used the program to "print" using a cnc, they could "print" it out with anything... say steel, aluminum or even wax... and for the comments, there are a few makers of plastic mags, AND almost full "plastic" firearms, glock, springfield, and many others- they do have steel parts in them but the frames and other parts are plastic. i dont care for plastic guns myself and have never owned a plastic after market mag, but my hi-cag mag for my ruger 10/22 is by tactical inc. and is cnc aluminum, now they offer thge same in polymer...

I could make one with a pair of tin snips and a solderin gun if'n I had a mind to.

The Clinton Crime Bill and "assault" weapon did sunset however many states continue the crusade against all those horrible bayonet lugs that lead to cross border drug gang wars etc

California has its own little made up mag capacity law using dates from the CCB and stuff

theres always gonna be somebody that can make just about anything and thats a good thing, good old American ingenuity
