No worries, the fact that you happen to be a damn good photographer helps.

Great shots TRUE. Makes me wish I checked it out when I was there.

Me and a friend drove by a week ago, and there was a bunch of trucks parked in front and guys walking around in front with clip boards. We were going to go back later that night, but ended up running out of gas and had to head back home.

Ditto to what CDR said.

Yeah, Steelscape is a good'un. I mean to go back there with an actual tripod and lighting(!) this time, get down into that pit and not miss the other building. Now that there seems to be site activity, I better get on my horse and get that going.

Me and DtEW Stopped by there last Saturday. We had our run of the building closest to the train tracks, but as soon as we stepped in to building #2, Security drove in....Doh! So, we high-tailed it out, took cover for a while and then tried again. This time, he was parked BETWEEN both buildings. Looks like someone isn't allowed to sleep on the job any more. Here's a few I took.....

Well, at least we now know where (else) to look for him/them. I had brought a spotting scope for assessing his state of typical (in)attention at the front of the complex, not knowing that his dark-blue Civic was hidden amongst the brush at the back of the complex. I figure he's probably using binoculars (if anything at all), and I can still get the jump on him with my higher-powered scope and our lower profile.

As usual, ambient lighting for me.

My usual cathedral perspective.

"A real-life Doom level", or "reflections in the red toxic sludge". (Near-blind framing, long exposure.)

Ok, I lied... had to light paint a little bit. Love my Fenix LD22.

Namesake.

We would've shot more, but we were expecting to come back into this building. I was just having a ball exploring the toxic dungeons that I had missed the last time. So many possible shots there. A return trip is inevitable.

For sure. I think it might be interesting to consider this place on a rainy weekend.

There was some debate as to who was going to post first that I don't think got answered. So I'll do it! On Sunday I went out to the steel works with Seedy & Detw. Had such a great time seeing this place again... only this time with friends. I don't think I thanked Seedy properly for bringing the one thing I should have, beer! Or Detew for photography advice, so thank you both for such a fun & memorable time. I still can't decide if my absolute favorite memory is the gorgeous adult fox that out foxed all three of our cameras, OR the security guard driving through the complex bumping George Michael's "Last Christmas". I'm going to go with door number two Monty!!!

P.S. Sorry about that first HUGE pic. I'm trying to learn Photoshop and I don't know what happened. I think it looks okay, for my first try!!!

Quite honestly, this place has it all. Huge site, larger-than life machines of unknown function, odd spaces, catwalks, you name it. Mix in two kick-ass explorin' friends, beer(!), a beautiful (and auspicious) red fox, and the most amusing security guard ever... and you have a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

lol It totally was! I think it kind of looks good too! My fave is the close up of the model. How the hell did you beat the reflection!?!? It looks like you crawled inside the plexiglass box with it!

'is OK. I wouldn't have PP'ed it if it didn't look kind of interesting.

Who's to say I didn't? ;)

But really, the thing is to just get up real close (like, touching it) to the plexiglass and exaggerate the focal plane distance ratio between what you're shooting and the thing that hinders it. It's a common trick people use to shoot through a chain-link fence and have it barely (or not at all) show up in the final photo. It's also the same reason why if you have a dirty lens, it barely (if at all) matters to the final image. The rest is identifying what the plexiglass did to color and fixing it in PP (contrast, black levels).
