On May 31, 2002 Steelscape, Inc. took ownership of the assets of Material Science Corp.’s (MSC) Pinole Point Steel Inc. facilities in Richmond, Calif. Steelscape, Inc. is part of the Grupo IMSA family of companies and operates as a separate entity within the IMSA Acero division. IMSA acquired the MSC Pinole Point Steel facilities in an asset sale
Steelscape Inc. will shutter its painting and metal coating plant in Richmond and put the property up for sale, the firm said Friday. The Richmond operations will move to a new plant in Shreveport, La., by March 2006.
The move by the maker of pre-painted steel products for the construction industry comes as its parent company, IMSA Acero of Monterrey, Mexico, plans to consolidate its U.S. operations and expand production capacity.
Steelscape's Richmond plant produces 255,000 metric tons per year of metal-coated steel and 155,000 metric tons per year of painted steel. After analyzing its pre-painting capacity in the United States, the company decided to relocate those existing lines rather than build new green-field facilities.
So now we get to explore this place. The longest building is .29 miles long. They are about 5 stories tall but on 2-3 levels and 2 levels below ground. Those lil things you see in the top right corner of the google shot are rail cars for scope on size. Sorry not many outside shots as there is a security guard we had to avoid.
A model in one of the buildings of the facility in it's hayday.
This was a smaller model in one of the offices. Its has been damaged by vandals
Scrapers had a gold mine in this place. There were dozens of spots that looked just like this.

Thanx to our friend for sharing this place with us.

Nice find Bonnie & Clyde !!!
Alice, your #4, #7, and #9 pictures are really good. I like how you captured the reflection in #4. Your #9 picture looks like something is coming out of the wall.
madcap, I like the angle of your #1 shot. Your #6, #7, & #9 make feel like I'm there is something hidden in the darkness of the shots.

Nice explore. FWIW, the security guard is really bored and the guy I talked to was willing to escort me in for a tour last year, but he was a little too creepy for me to take up the offer!

Thanks ZM!!!
"How do you know I'm mad?" said Alice. "You must be," said the Cat, "or you wouldn't have come here."

Finally got off my butt and am posting what few pictures I got of the place. Pardon the quality, as these are from my phone and needed to touching up to get them to look right. Two words for those who were there that first time: Screech Owl.

Hit up this place last weekend. Neat space, love the scale of it. It reminded me of some of the larger buildings at Hunter's Point or Mare Island, just not as old.
Thanks to Bonnie & Clyde for making it known
I had a new lens with me, and shot even more verticals than I normally do (and I normally shoot vertical).
