madcap and I love owls. They seem to reclaim many of our favorite spots but are often hard to photograph. Show me your hooters!

Unfortunately, he died in this very spot, not long after I took these shots.

At the time, I didn't know that anything was wrong with him. It was very peculiar that he was on the ground, but I'd heard that juveniles will sometimes fall from the nest or leave the nest, and the parents won't let them come back.

He didn't seem injured in any way, but I was able to get within feet of him. These were shot literally 3 or 4 feet from him.

I left the plant and returned maybe a month later... to find that he'd died in the exact same spot as I'd found him earlier. Sad! Totally bummed me out.
