The flood's coming from the west, up the assiniboine, and caused some problems in Brandon. They diverted a bunch of it, which flooded a couple hundred homes (I heard).
Meanwhile, Lake Manitoba is also flooding, and is destroying a bunch of homes/cottages along the eastern shore (Twin Lakes Beach, Laurentia Beach, Delta Beach, etc). They don't expect it to crest until June 15 and they don't expect it to be safe for some of the people to return home till like fall.
My dad's cottage has survived so far, but another strong western wind could make it bad. It's at Laurentia Beach, 3 or 4 cottages from the lake, and had about 3' of water outside of it. Fortunately, it's 2.5' off the ground, so they only got a couple inches inside.
His next door neighbour has a ground-level home there, which ended up full of water and mud and is probably unfixable.
A friend of his died of a heart attack while sandbagging, too. Super sad.
